What is everybody planning on hunting this fall? Being a poor ole country boy,I'm planning on chasing deer for 2 and a half months(mostly weekends) and planning on a few feral Hog hunts. I hope to go Elk hunting one of these years but have got to get one daughter out of college and another out of high school first. What about you???

Backstop-noun-
large inert object, constructed of natural materials such as dirt and cross ties in large equestrian nutritional supplementation location, in order to prevent piercing of the flesh of a species known as Roopvillius Redneckious who moved his rolling, semi-permanant(barring the presence of a tornado) domicile, a much to short of a distance through the rather tall but narrow species of tree known as the Georgia Pine(used for telephone poles and pulp-see Georgia Pine) located behind said equestrian nutritional supplementation location.

Mike

got a hog hunt lined up for Oct 24, 25, 26 in GA., and look forward to chasing a few deer here in NC, an maybe PA if I can meet up with my friend across the street.
Otherwise it is squirrel season from Oct till Jan, and I'll be after them!

Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.

When your ship comes in. ... make sure you are willing to unload it.

PAYPAL, sucks and I will never use them again. I recommend you do the same.

I have a whitetail hunt scheduled for the last week in Nov. in the pan handle of Idaho. I met the outfitter on a year ago while on a fishing trip with my Dad.
I know a lot of you guys don't use guides, and this will be my first. I am just tired of not seeing legal bucks when I hunt. I like walking around in the woods as well as the next guy, but just once I want to see what it is like to have a shot at a legal buck.
My children are grown and gone,so it is a little more financialy feasable now. Even so, I doubt it will be a yearly adventure. If the move to Oregon comes to pass, I'll have better oppertunities there then in CA.
I'll use my trusty M70 in .270. Clint (the outfitter) says the mature bucks can get over 200lbs, in that area. That is quite a bit bigger then the black tail- mulie outfits I've seen in the Sierra Nevadas. (on scouting trips)

Whitetail, starting in OCT. with bow then in NOV with rifle/pistol, then muzzle for 2weeks and back to bow for about 3wks. if any tags arn't filled. Would like to bunny hunt but there just isn't any, on a good day with a couple of dogs you might jump 2 or 3. That used to be the biggie around here and I kinda miss it sometime (memories I guess). Now don't get me wrong I truly love deer hunting and would like to go back to Colo. hunting elk, but sometimes hearing a dog bawling on the trail on a bunny is music...

Same stuff I hunt every year, roughly in order:
Dove (Not many - they drive me crazy), Forest Grouse (ruffed, blue, spruce), Sharptail, Sage Hen, Turkey, Mule Deer (I'm really keying on this this year), Elk, Bear (maybe), Pheasant, Duck, Goose, Rabbit, and Coyote.
There isn't much else to hunt around here, except Mountain Lion and Bobcat (I'm not chasing those this year), Whitetails, Antelope (didn't draw this year), Bighorn Sheep, Rocky Mountain Goat and Moose (didn't put in for those - it's like being hit by lightning).
There's just nothing to do around here. My seasons start next weekend with Mtn. Quail, and Blue Grouse. We don't have enough Dove around here to bother with. My deer season starts the last weekend in September. I'm going out-late-and watch the other hunters. Want to see where they go, and what they do. I don't want to put up with them. Or let'em see where I am. In my complete camo outfit. By the middle of the week, I'll be out there, in position an hour before it's legal to shoot. It's nice to be retired. And know just where "he" is, and where he goes. Bear season starts the same day. If that certain bear shows up-fine. Otherwise, I'll wait for him too. When the deer season closes, bear stays open until the end of December, if the kill doesn't reach 1500 animals (?). Drool. Thanksgiving week, I'm going to play "hookey" from school, and head for the desert. At least that's the tentative plan. So far so good. My new hunting partner has promised to meet me there. If he promises to show me how to hit a Gambel's Quail, better, I'll show him how to track desert mule deer. Even if he can't teach me shotguning secrets, I'll try to teach him what a large buck's tracks look like . You know these old hunters, hard to teach new tricks. After I get back from the desert, it's back after that special bear. I suspect that I'll try calling him. We'll see. When bear season closes, there is still Mtn Quail until Jan. 31st. After that, I get to wander around the deer winter ranges with one of my favorite toys harassing the coyotes. Got to try out my new snowshoes. And see how much hide damage a Barnes X does to a coyote hide. E

Well the main thing as always is Whitetails and that starts the last Saturday in Oct. for residents here. Before Deer Season i will get out the .22 and go after Gray and Red Squirrels, and i will go after Ruffed Grouse with my new 12ga. I might go after bear if i can find the time i know where there are a few.
YH
