My 6-06 give me 3400+, using RL-25 and 100g Interlok.
I am wishing my bbl was a bit heavier, though.

Well I use to own a 240 WM, I shot it some, hunted with it some and that was it, I sold it! I can't see going thru all the time and putting up with the down side of things when you start shoving hunting bullets out of the barrel at 3400fps or more! If I would need that from a 6mm cartridge, I would think a bigger round would be a better choice, but this is America and you can shoot just about anything you want! As I get older, I am finding that maybe a plain Jane 243 would be a good choice for the White tails I shoot these days! I have a 6.5 x 55 and a 7 x 57 so there is really no real need for one, but need has little to do with want!

That sounds promising. What length barrel?

My rifle was a plain 270 win before Big Stick gave me some advice and guidance on what I should do with it.

Clay Spencer "Spencer's Custom Rifles" of Scottsville, VA installed the barrel using his CNC lathe with one day turnaround time.

6XC, great accuracy, fit in a short action and easy to load for. It's not the fastest but fast enough for most hunting. Barrel life is very good.

BBl length is 26". Screwed into a VZ-24. The gun was put together in 1986 and still going. Used for hunting, only.

My .240 does best with a 100 gr. NPT over a healthy load of MRP. And, I tried a bunch of combos, including both 4831's.

I've killed Mule Deer, Whitetail, Antelope, Caribou and Sheep (and varmints) with a 6MM-06. Simply neck down 25-06 brass -- nearly same case capacity as 240W.

Mine has a 24" #2 contour Douglas barrel (1 in 10) a Brown Precision stock and a LH Rem 700 action. I had to bed it full-length.

Less than 8 lbs with a 2.5X8 Leupold. Shoots flat -- little recoil. It's a 7/10s inch rifle with most loads: except it hates Barnes (me, too).

I shoot either 100 grain Partitions or 70 grain BTs. RL22 with the Partition (3270 fps) or IMR4350 with the 70 grain BTs (around 3600 fps).

My longest big game kill with it was the Sheep @ 348 yards. One shot -- double lunged it -- went maybe 8 feet before tipping over (with the 100 grain Partition).

These high capacity cases need heavy bullets to show much superiority over 6MMs etc...

I believe that my gunsmith acquaintance said nothing about any shots at deer within 200 yards with the 87 grain Sierra Game King from his 6mm-06. I believe that he did say that the vast majority of his shots at deer were between 200 and 400 yards, with very few shots beyond 400 yards. I last spoke to him about 20 years ago, I think, so I don't recall many details.

For all the members that know or have dealt with me in the past they know I work in very remote areas of the world. Presently I am working 5 hours back in the mountains of Saudi Arabia.I go in for 4 to 5 weeks at a time before coming out and returning to the States.
