I saw this video on using a moistened Q-Tip to rotate a tick around it's mouthparts to disengage the holding barbs.
Timely, as I found a big tick on my shin last night.
Tried the removal method shown in this video, and darn if it didn't work just like advertised.
3 times around and the tick was hangin' on to the Q-Tip and loose from me.

A 1 second heat treating to the tick via a bic lighter, and job complete.
The other 10 seconds or so of flame was just to make certain the tick learned it's lesson.

I've read you should keep the Tick just in case you get sick so it can be tested for Lyme disease .
Good info. -thanks !

Last two times found an embedded tick I failed to fully remove it. Ended up on an antibiotic course just to be safe once as the area around the head gets infected it kind of looks like a bullseye rash. Did save it the second time in packing tape folded over and came back negative for Lyme. I usually carry a tick key in the field which is a concave "V" that you drag across your skin and pinch the head to fully pull it out. Failed once though so I'm sure I can try out this method sometime this summer. Thanks for posting.

Interesting...the video shows moving the Q-tip counter clockwise and I wonder if you get the same results moving clockwise.

Good thing to present to a bunch of Scouts heading off to Summer Camp in a few weeks...so simple and making perfect sense, wonder why this doesn't get around more.

That means if you live along the equator, you're screwed.
