Just came into a '60's vintage Nylon 66. Is there any problem using high or hyper-velocity ammo in these rifles, or do I need to stick with standard velocity ammo?

CCI Stingers is the only load I shoot in my old Nylon 66.

And just like the Energizer Bunny, it keeps going going and still going

I've ran just about any ammo through one as a kid....winchester, cci, remington all worked great and killed lots of rabbits.

Great to hear. Such a clean, trim rifle. Thought about putting a 3/4" tube scope on it, but like the lines and handling without. Pretty good open sights too and I can get a pretty sharp sight picture with them.

A scope on a Nylon 66 is asking for a lot of frustration. The action cover moves around on them and gives a wandering zero and large groups.

The only ammo that ever gave me trouble feeding in a Nylon 66 was some Russian "Junior" brand ammo that had a waxy coating on it. Other than that, any/every brand/style of 22 LR ammo has functioned without a hiccup.

My nylon 66 isn't fussy, great little rimfires.

Mich-scott is right though, scope on a nylon 66 is asking for frustration.

Unless you can mount it forward on the barrel where the rear sight is, maybe a shotgun or handgun scope mounted forward of the receiver.

I'm perfectly happy with open sights on mine.

Mine fries about anything I put into it!, I got it with a cheap Bushnell scope, and still on it, after 44 years!

I had a Remington 10-C Mohawk on which I installed a cantilever-style Weaver #60A base for a Browning SA-22 on the barrel and it shot pretty well, despite the crappy trigger.

The "receiver" on the Nylon 66 family is just a piece of sheet steel that covers the nylon structure and is not attached to the barrel, so experiencing a wandering zero is a common problem. The zero might not wander much, maybe not enough to bother a person who is just casually plinking at pop cans and such, but the average Nylon 66 isn't likely to be as accurate a rifles as either the average Marlin 60 series or the average Ruger 10/22 series.

I remember when the Nylon 66 came out and they advertised in Boy's Life, the free mag for cub scouts.

My nylon 66 had problems ejecting the agelara low noise ammo. Not sure what the actual spelling is but with less powder in the bullets did not seem to have enought power to eject correctly. Shot standard to high velocity bullets work fine. Open sights worked better than scoped. I seem to hit everything I aimed at with open sights.

I also remember the 66 being advertised on Saturday mornings which was cartoon day. Anyone one else recall the boy playing army, dropping it down a hill, picking it up, and continuing to play.?

The Nylon 66 will handle about any ammo, but you dont lube it with oil. Use graphite. A #2 pencil works for me.
