Hey guys,
I've been debating for a while getting a syntethis stock for my hunting gun 7mm RM. Had thought about Manners MCS-T vs the A3 Sporter or Game Scout. I see the HTG has maybe a thicker forearm, but lower comb?
I prefer a higher comb and wider forearm, though not super thick as a varmint of gun that will ride bags a lot. Not a lot of prone either, but must be somewhat comfortable at least

Is the Game Scout a good option, or the A3 Sporter?

Thanks

Game Warden might be your cup of tea. Same comb dimensions as the Game Scout, but has the wider forend common to the HTG. I have several HTGs. The comb is a bit low, but I've remedied that by adding KMV adjustable comb hardware. Just not sure that I want to make the leap into the vertical grip composite stocks. That said, I did drop a 6.5 Creedmoor built on a 700 S/A into a XLR Element chassis. There is something to be said for it, but I would not want it on a rig I was toting around all day.

A-5 style pistol grip stocks feel and function very differently from AR-style pistol grips like the one used on XLR chassis. The stocks are more user friendly for getting into and shooting from field positions, IMO.

Get the adjustable check piece if you want a high comb on the game scout. I found the game scout to be low and difficult to get a solid veld on. Although, everyone is different.

For comb height comparison.....

A-5 - 1/4"

Varmint - 1/2"

Sporter - 1/2"

Mountain - 9/16"

Game Scout - 9/16"

HTG - 5/8"

Classic - 11/16"

I have had a different experience with mine, but I am using low Talley rings and a scope with a 42mm objective; it's been just about perfect as far as cheek weld goes. I was actually surprised to see aalf's numbers say that the Game Scout comb is 1/8" lower than the Classic, as I'd always thought they were the same.

I could see having to build the comb up a bit if I was using a rail and a scope with a larger objective, for sure. Overall, I have really liked the stock thus far. Not sure it takes the cake for me as a favorite over the Classic, but definitely a good choice for my kind of hunting...

Thanks for the info. Seems like it will fit my needs, maybe even with the narrowish forearm. Rings will either be med zees with 40mm Conquest or low Warnes and 42mm 3-9 SS if I change scope.
No need for a super high comb, but enough to line up scope easy upon shouldering.
Aalf, those are drop at comb I assume?
Thanks for info... any one has any McMillan coupon codes now?? grin

Tanner,
What makes the Classic more comfortable than the Scout? angle of grip for carrying on ready? Comb angle?

Thanks.
