OK, We are expanding membership involvement and product. GeorgiaBoy has volunteered to test and review the Pentax Gameseeker 4x32 so we are sending one to him today. As soon as he has checked it out he will post a review of it on this thread and then send it to the next person in line to do the same.
So, who wants to get involved and do a product test/review? Please PM me your name and address and I will set up the order and get the round robin going.

There is no better way to test & review gear than having the members here getting involved, as I am sure you all agree.

Thanks in advance for getting involved.

I find it hard to believe that nobody here has an interest or wants to get involved in testing and reviewing this item.

Anyone?

Sign of the times....

Nobody wants a 4x32 anymore. Now if you had a 6x24x56, the list would be long....

You read my mind.

Still, nothing wrong with a good 4x.

You have my address . I have two rifles with 4X Leupolds on them, so I can do a side-by-side.

I'd also like to try a 6X, just for grins, beside my brand-new VX II 6x36 .

It's a grand thing you're doing here -- giving folks a chance to try the wares in the field.

I would definetly be interested. I have 4Xs on 2 rifles now (Weaver K4) and am liking that range. I have /and will continue to buy and use variables but am liking the fixed powers.

Dennis,
It is my pleasure to work with the members getting gear into their hands. Why should just the magazine writters get to do this type of thing?
After the holidays I will speak with some of the mfgs and get some binoculars that we can add into the member test & review.

muledeer, how do you like that FX II 6x36? I just bought one for the wifes 84M 7mm-08 for sheep hunting and was curious as to how you liked it. Sorry, didn't mean to go off topic.

Doug,
I generally test and compare scopes a fair bit. I am not especially interested in Gameseekers though since I've had a chance to test three different ones, including a 4x32 (also a 1.75-5x and 3-9x40). Although Gameseekers are decent scopes for the money, I think they are optically comparable with better currently available Chinese-made scopes from other makers. I am neither overwhelmed nor underwhelmed with Gameseeker scopes. They are more or less what I expected. If you plan to do this T and E thing with other scopes or binoculars I would certainly be very interested in participating.

I haven't mounted it yet -- just got it. I bought it to put on my .280 Featherweight for ... sheep hunting .

I plan to do a fair amount of scope swapping over the winter -- so volunteering to try the Pentaxes sort of fits the mode. As soon as Leupold builds their new "hunter" turrets, several of the scopes will get them .

Wife called, said package arrived today. Boy was she surprised when I told her I hadn't spent any money.

I'll get everything mounted Fri. and off to the range Sat. I'll get a chance to hunt with it Mon. and Tue. Great timing!

Comments to follow.

Thanks Doug.

I will be very interested in the review. Im in the market for a fixed 6x power scope for a new Ruger 7x57 I just got last week. I thought about the Weaver K series but Midway is out of them right now. I think Ill wait for the review now.

Thanks.

I'm at least partialy to blame for this, because I mentioned that I like my 6x42 so well. few of my shots are closer than 50 or over much 200yds. I chose the 6 because of low light conditions. It's mounted on a 7x57 that I shoot 150gn Partitions at 2725fps out of. The gun shoots one inch groups. I got it shot in at the range where I hunt with a .97" 3 shot group dead-on at 100yds. I hunted but shot naught. The light 'gathering' was better than any of my 40 or 44 objective Atec or 3200 elite variables. The next weekend I shot another sub inch group at 100. Usuing the 1st 'stadia' or whatever it's called I then shot a 1.79" group at 200yds. It was about an inch low and a little less than an inch to the right. I'm not touching a thing! POI has remained the same for eight, or so, more trips. capt david

Hello Everyone,

Finished testing out the 4x today.

First let me express my appriceiation to Doug for allowing regular folk like us to do this kind of thing.

The 4x arrived on the 20th. I thought I would buy some Leu. Rifleman series rings and bases to match it up with. The set up works well together.

My first impressions of the scope were good. The scope feels well made, not too heavy but not too light. It is of one piece construction. The machine work is well done, as is the matte finish. There is a whopping 6-1/4" of ring spacing distance. The optics were surprisingly clear and bright, more so than I expected. The windage/elevation dials are abosolutely finger adjustable (no coin needed). The recticle was a surprise with it's multiple aiming points, but the duplex was nice and black, easily seen and not to thick.

I mounted everything up and went to the range. The fist thing I noticed was the lack of eyerelief, 3" is advertised and that is what you get. I was impressed with the clarity of the glass right off the bat however, as I was with the brightness. The glass is of much better quality in my opinon than the older Tasco's in the same price range that I have had experiance with. Shooting off the bench I found that the finger adjustable windage/elevation feature was very user friendly. Also the positive "click" adjustments were very difined. I fired 20 rounds of factory 308 ammo that first day and found that the scope tracted well throughout it's windage and elevation adjustments.

I hunted with the scope the next evening and the following morning. I was impressed with the scope's light gathering abilities. Many scopes will give you an excessive "abmer hue" in the twilight, this scope did exhibt that same thing in the late evening, but not near the extent that I expeceted. The scope performed equally well on the next morning. As the sun rose I was able to target several differnt points at various yardages, and as the light became brighter, the scope only became more clear and crisp. The scope performed well in my limited hunting senerios.

I just got back a second time form the range today. I fired 20 proven handloads from this rifle. I am limited to 150 yards at my range. I wanted to try the multiple aming points provided by the reticle. At the first range session I was not impressed with this feature, it seemed to clutter the 2" circles I use as aming points. On this second session I was able to work around it a little better. I cannot say that I particularly like this feature, but I would not swear it off either. I would however question its usefulness on a 4x scope, at least in my hunting situations. I found again, as I did the first day that the tracking of the scope was very good. At both 100 and 150 yards the windage and elevation adjustments were repeatable. I was again impressed with the positive click adjustments and the fact they were finger adjustable, I would predict that this scope should hold its adjustments well.

PROS:
Clear, bright, and crisp optics.
Good ring spacing.
Positive, finger windage/elevation adjustments.
One piece tube.
Clean machining and finish.

CONS:
Eye relief. I would expect a 3.5" min on a fixed power scope.
Limited eye box.

OVERALL:
I would consider this scope of excellent quality for a scope in its price range and would reccommend it to anyone wanting to get a good scope for less than a $100 bucks...something that I thought cound not be done 5 years ago.

NOW if Pentax would give us 3/4" more eye relief...this scope would compete and compair with other scopes costing much more money.

Taking everthing in consideration... with the cost....I would give it 2 thumbs up, a good value for the money.

Thanks Doug,
GB

I think it would be of value to keep up with the round count and caliber used. I fired:

40 round of .308

Tom,
Thank you for taking the time to test the scope out and write that very complete review. I will PM you the information for fish280 who is next in line to test it out.

Again, thank you for getting involved.
