My SIL gave me an old one. It needs some parts to be usable & I was wondering if it would be worth doing. The total parts would be around $100 if I replaced the broken stock. I could probably get by with the existing stock which would cut the price in half. At the minimum, I need to get a magazine to even find out if it will shoot.
Does anyone have any experience with one?

I think a firearm that functions would be a lot more useful than a firearm that doesn't function.

I haven't ever owned one, but have shot several. For their intended use as a survival gun, they're more than adequate. Most shooters would find them ugly, not very accurate, and a bit klutzy to handle.

I find mine to be extremely accurate for what it is. Would not be without one. Fix it up or get a new one for ~ $200

It has but one purpose. A stowable break-down survival firearm. Other than that almost any other choice of .22 rifle on earth would be better suited for, well, anything.

PM Sent. Fix it, remarkably simple, great truck or boat gun. Forget the value, I don't see a whole lot of used ones meaning people that have them ain't getting rid of them.

I wouldn't spend that kind of money on it, unless it had a major amount of sentimental value to me.

Somebody builds and sells a reproduction of them now. Don't know what the new ones go far.

I picked up the AR-7 a few years ago at Fleet Farm about 5 years ago for about $180. It lives in my truck full time, along with a few hundred rounds of .22. It is nice to have it handy in my daily driver.
I have potted some grouse along the road and up in trees with it. The sighting is weird and takes a little getting used to. I have probably shot 200 rounds through it with nothing but blazers without a jam.

I pack with llamas. I thought it would be a light, handy gun to take along on trips. It's no bear gun but might be fun to play with.

They are fun. Mine is reasonably accurate though the trigger pull is heavy and if there's a way to lighten it I didn't figure out how the last time I played with it. I added a Weaver Quik Point my dad bought soon after they came out. Looked really futuristic before black guns became popular. Last assignment (with the Quik Point) was popping gophers in the garden with Colibris, worked very well. The stock should be eminently repairable at least as far as function. And James Bond used one.

Or it could also mean they break and aren't worth fixing. I had one once and it was a POS. I wouldn't spend a penny to repair one.
