Who is going to buy one?

Remington is expanding their reach in handguns by adding a 10mm to their lineup. Their new R1 10mm Hunter Long Slide is an understandable choice given the rise in pistol hunters, many of whom prefer their hunting handguns be chambered in 10mm. The announcement of the new pistol follows quick on the heels of the reintroduction of the R51.

The R1 10mm Hunter LS has a 6″ match-grade barrel, an accessory rail, VZ premium G10 grips, and LPA fully adjustable sights. Including stock fully adjustable sights is a smart move considering the gun is being marketed to hunters looking to make careful adjustments for a clean kill. The new gun also has a stainless steel frame and slide which lends it the heft necessary to hopefully absorb some of the recoil it’s bound to create.

There will undoubtedly be comments regarding its similarity to the Para Ordnance Elite LS Hunter, which is also chambered in 10mm. While the new R1 does bear visual similarities to the Para, similarities in performance have not yet been seen. And frankly, if the R1 is as capable a pig, deer, and mountain lion hunter as the Para, then it’s all good. (Yes, with the right combination of handgun and quality ammunition, you can drop all manner of game with a 10mm.)

Starting MSRP $1310.00. See it for yourself online at https://www.remington.com/handguns/model-1911-r1/1911-r1-10mm-hunter

From Remington’s website:

“The R1 10mm Hunter Long Slide is a handgun built with the hunter in mind. From the extremely accurate 6” match-grade barrel, to the match quality fully adjustable sights, and VZ premium G10 grips, this pistol will get the job done at distance. The 10mm Hunter has the knockdown power and accuracy to be the perfect choice this hunting season.”

Charge what the traffic will bear, I reckon. I do approve of the concept.

Colt Deltas can still be had for around 1K and for 300 more, I can fit a bushing and add sights.

Long slides are a different animal - I think STI sells one in 10mm, but they are uncommon. I know Nighthawk does, but they are $3k-$4k. $1300 is not a bad deal, if it shoots and functions well. smile

Why wouldn't they set it up for red dot or similar sight.

True enough, I failed to include the long-slide aspect. The price isn't all that bad if that's what you want.

So they can sell twice as many when they release a red dot version in a couple of years.

....well they lied to me. This is nothing more than a PARA-USA Elite LS HUNTER. When I was looking for a PARA six months ago I called Remington and was told by the CS rep that Remington would NOT be continuing any of the 10mm in the PARA line...

I bought one of the PARAs and it is an EXCELLENT shooter...and is the only American long slide 10mm under $2K. These are made by Remington in their new 1911 plant.

If you want a long slide 10mm take a look at these...

If you can't find a DW Bruin for under 2K, you're not looking very hard...

The DW is a fine gun...but with shipping and dealer fees you are still talking $2K... $6-700 buys a lot of ammo and reloading components.

One reason I would never consider one is the checkered front strap...just a dealer breaker for me.

Several of my friends have Remington 1911s and they are excellent shooters... Am I big on Freedom Group...no, but they are an excellent value for an American made gun.

Too bad Colt doesn't make a DELTA Long Slide Hunter with adjustable sights...they could probably market it for in the $1500 area.

One thing I need to clarify...the Elite LS Hunter I have was made by PARA prior to their factory being combined with Remington and production moved to the Remington plant. Remington is doing all warranty work on PARA guns..

When I started looking for a Hunter back in February or so, there were none left at the wholesale level. Word from the SHOT Show was that later in the year Remington would decide which PARA models would be continued. When I called them in March I was told that the Hunter had been discontinued and at that time Remington had no plans on marketing a 10mm long slide or otherwise. The retail at the time was $1250. I paid $1300 for mine NIB off GunBroker. The next one I saw sell was for $1400 and the one after that $1680. After that I stopped looking.

With a Retail Price of $1310 for a new Remington I think one will be able to find them eventually for around a grand...that will be about half of what it takes to get a DW in the door. If the Remington CS rep had told me that they would be making LS 10mm late in the year under the Remington brand I would have gladly waited...

I'd love to see the same gun in .45 and .38 Super...

the picture I saw suggests the gun has the swartz type safety, and a fiber optic front sight. Why a target rear with a square notch and a rounded front sight?
