Pick one of the 30-30's and don't let anyone pry the .444
from your hands.

The 444"s are extremely accurate and hopefully you are a handloader.

Thanks Doc
I got my 336a Marlin 30-30 from my father in law today. I talked to the people at the Cody Museum today. When I gave them the serial number they told me it was made in 1951. Father in law kept the 3336a in 444.

Troy,

The 50's era Marlins are very well made, the barrels were cut rifled up to 1955/1956. Just be sure the magazine tube is not binding from the receiver hole to the barrel stud. I very tight tube will greatly effect your accuracy. Glad you grabbed the 30-30, ammo and components are always available.

Not sure if your rifle is drilled for scope use but if you intent to scope the 336-A give the Talleys extra low bases a look, provides you perfect eye alignment to the scope eye piece.

Right now the rifle has a Lyman peep sight on the rear. I will pay more attention to see if it is drilled and tapped. How will know if the magazine tube is in a bind?

Thanks Again for the information.

Troy,

You will have to remove the forend cap and then the forend.

You will have to drop the magazine tube a few inches to remove the forend. once removed place the mag tube back onto the barrel stud, doing so will tell you if you have a tight fit or not.

Do not drill and tap it.Old Steel Lyman sights are worth about $150.00 right now. Before you take it apart ,shoot it.If you want to learn about your rifle join Marlin Owners. http://www.marlinowners.com/forum/
