Never had one, but always heard that was one of Deere's best tractors. I knew a couple of guys who had that model, and they really liked them.

I worked for a JD dealer way back when the 40 series was new....if I remember that model was of German mfg,,,,,duitz engine.....it's been 30 years. Either way the 40 series was a great run....I still plant with a 4640
Most small tractors in the Deere line of that era were repainted foreign built tractors....my little 650 is a yanmar....
To answer your question Deere didn't make any junk nor put there name on junk...that was then.....not sure that's the case anymore...

Sorry it was the next series ..the 2840 that was German...the 2640 was all Deere....has the 4 cyl engine about 70 hp....would be a bulletproof utility tractor....if it's in good shape you probably won't live long enough to wear it out....

One I am looking at is 70 hp, JD 146 loader, and woods finish mower for 8K

If it's in good condition, and doesn't have any issues, I'd think that was a fair price. Those tractors were good for a lot of hours.

bought the 2640 tonight, got a 350 gal fuel barrel and stand in the deal as well, thanks for the feedback
