John,
In The Big Book of Gun Gack you describe using CCI 200 primers for the .338 Win Mag 200 grain loads with Reloder 15. I'm going to work up a load with RL 15 and 200 grain Accubonds and plan to follow your lead. My question is: why did you decide to use CCI 200's instead of a magnum primer? It appears that in all the other magnum cartridge loads listed in the book you used a magnum primer.

A magnum primer can work better with that load, at least in some rifles, so is worth trying. But RL-15 is a medium-burn-rate, extruded powder that ignites pretty easily--and the charge isn't huge, either, not much more than a heavy .30-06 load.

I'll probably start out with a magnum primer and see how it goes. If groups don't look as good as I'd like I can try the CCI 200's.

I've had good luck with that load and Federal 215s. I ran out and ended up with a brick of Win LR primers. They do just as well.

Same 65gr RL15 load has worked for me in two .338WM rifles and 200-210gr bullets. Always used CCI 250 primers.
Now with even more aplomb

A friend of mine related to me a suggestion from a Federal engineer who told him to try using F210s with powder quantities of less than 80grains. I can tell you from personal experience it worked in my 338 with both 210 and 250 grain bullets.
