Twice through the lungs and the third shot through the front shoulder because he would not fall down. Examination of the wound channels said that the bullets did not open up at all. I couldn't even push my little finger all the way into the exit hole in the scapula. Don't think I will use those bullets again. Never had a NP not drop one DRT. I have to admit that with a case full of H4831sc the gun is an accurate thumper. JMOFWIW-Craig Presidents 100-'97 Distinguished Rifleman-'81 NRA Benefactor Artillery lends dignity to what would otherwise be a vulgar brawl.

Highest velocities are with n560 but with the outrageous prices they are getting for that powder now, I have discontinued using it. 165s were best at 3450 ish. This was easy with H4831 and N560. Never shot many 180s. Shot some 200s a long time ago and used H870 @ 3000 fps in a 24" barrel. H870 is a horribly dirty powder. I would not try R22, 7838, H1000 or Magnum with 200s. Interesting! I've been trying to come up with a load for 300 Wtby in a new to me custom shop 700. Been up to 85 gr H4831sc with 168 NBT but cant get over 3080 fps on the chrono. Factory Wtby ammo is running around 3250 avg. Any thoughts? The beatings will continue until morale improves

I have been working up loads for my Vangard and with 83 gr IMR-7828SSC, 168 gr TTSXs, Fed Mag primers, & Hornady brass I got this 3-shot group: I'm done! That's one grain under (Hodgdon) book max but I'm not sure how fast they're going but suspect it's in the neighborhood of 3200.

His 300 wby load is 84.9 Gr. 7828 with 180 grain hornady spire point flat base bullets. I used 215 primers. Load shot real well in every rifle I ever tried it in. I had been using 338 Win Mag's forever and decided to try the 300 Weatherby to replace the 338. Since I am trying to eliminate calibers and have a few 30 caliber rifles. I stopped when I got to 200 grain partitions and was pleased with the accuracy I got at full power loads> I felt that this load should easily replace the 338. I shot three each five shot groups: 300 Weatherby, Remington 700 Classic, 200 grain Nosler Partition, 215, 78.2 grains RE 26, (Best load), 0.66 MOA, .71 MOA and .71 MOA (average .693 MOA) The rifle loved that combination. It shot 220 grain partitions well too, but not as good (1 inch group) with RE26. I didn't try many loads below 200 grain and only a couple powders with 220 grain partitions. I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

Totally frustrated I reached out to my online source back then. One person responded with a private message as he had experienced the same frustration. He told me he finally landed on 84.5 gr's 7828 and 180 gr bullets. So, I tried it. The first two shot went in the same hole so tight I had to go downrange & fold the paper back to see the double graphite ring. After 430 rounds of wasted attempts, the 7828 load was the only load I have used in that gun since. It is dependably < 1/2 moa. The guy that revived it, was asking about the 175 LRX and RL23 powder. To the illiterate OP, like I said before. He should buy a 308w and take English/writing classes. When he found out I was a handloader he wanted me to do some loading for him. His load for the 300 wby is 84.9 grains of 7828 with a Federal 215. He also used 180 grain Hornady flat base bullets. I always thought he should know because of his working for Weatherby. This load was always very accurate in every rifle I tried it in. Hasbeen hasbeen (Better a has been than a never was!)
