The Stakeout Squad in NYC was active from the late 60s to the early 70s. It was formed by the NYPD to combat a large number of armed robberies, assaults and murders. Cirillo was one of it's first members and was involved in over 20 gunfights. The SOS was terminated due to political correctness (Cirillo's not) re the type of people who were killed committing a large number of these crimes.

Cirillo who had been a NYPD firearms instructor was an excellent shot and attended a number of autopsies. There's anecdotal info on the shootouts, the types of firearms used, bullet performance, what happens in a shootout etc. There's also considerable humor.

Good read but I don't believe it's in print today. I bought my copy used online
