I have a Kimber 84M, rebarreled as a custom 260 Rem that shoots like laser and I love it. What I dont love is the blind magazine. For those of you who own Kimbers, as you may know, they introduced the cheaper "Hunter" model this year that has a detachable magazine and Kimber does sell the magazine (Clip on) for $50.

I was wondering if it possible to fit that magazine on my Kimber 84M; that is, cutting the bottom of the stock and fitting the magazine, as long as minor to no machining is required.

Has anyone does this or knows of someone who has done it?

What is it you don't like about the blind magazine? Installing a floorplate will add weight and weaken the stock.

I do not like the fact that you have to chamber every round before you can get them out of the magazine. Also, I find that placing the rounds from the top is a bit problematic.

You don't have to chamber rounds- just move them far enough forward that they pop above the feed rails. Absolutely no need to fully chamber them.

If you like a clip rifle, that is another matter.

Well, clip rifles are certainly more practical. Also, I live in Grizzly country and its nice to have two separate clips: One for your deer rounds and another one for your bear protection.

I think when this ran as a thread previously it was not reccomended due to weakening the stock.

Doesn't the 84 detachable magazine only hold 3 rounds?

Interesting to see someone do it and how it turns out.
