Friend has one he is wanting to get rid of. Question is, did any of these come with a recoil pad? White line spacer under grip cap and white spacers on the sling swivels? Or sling swivels at all? What kind of trade value would it have? I hate that white line stuff.

The white line stuff was added after it left the factory. No swivels/studs either if its an F.

White line stuff is easy to get rid of , it ain't like it's a permanent fixture.

Typical when a recoil pad is installed. Not surprised to hear of one on a .358 but it brings down the value.

The 99F's in 358 shoot very nicely with a recoil pad, but I'd lose the white lines myself.

what kind are using? I traded for it and am going to have the pad replaced

I refinished the stock on the 99 f 358 I got in 1966 and put on a thin white line pad.

You see it here with a slip on pad at the range. The recoil does not bother with a hunting coat on.

Take the rifle the way it is or you won't get one. They are to hunt with.

I still love my 99 Series A in 358. Haven't given up the idea of buying a 99 in 300 with a farked bore, having it rebored and chambered in a 35-300 Savage. Just to save an original barrel gun and have a fresh bore. It might not generate the 358 Winchester velocity but it will still be an awesome stopper in an awesome gun. 200 gr 35 cal bullet at a mild velocity has to be a meat collector.

Seems to me that you'd have enough material to rebore and rechamber.

Use the 99 you buy with the chamber it has.

While the .358 is 'cool' I have also shot game with others and they all work!

The barrel thickness at the muzzle on a 358 M70 Featherweight is .105" and .1560" diameter.

A Savage 99 F is .112" and .158" diameter!

358 Winchester in a handy lever action was my favorite deer rifle when I lived in Alaska, nice to have when other, larger furry critters had a tendency to snag a downed deer for their own meal. Shot 20+ deer with a 250gr Hornady or Speer and they killed cleanly with very little meat loss. Worked just as well on moose. Have two 358's now, BLRs though.
