Hello

Doing some tire kicking on a replacement stock for a Savage Lightweight hunter if I get one.

Can anyone give me the weight of the base stock of a Savage Lightweight hunter model 11 and 16?

Thanks for your help,
Jeremy

Jeremybj,

In a few days I can give you that info. I have a 16 lightweight hunter on the way.

I am loving my stainless 223 lightweight hunter. I don't have a scale that can register lower weights or I'd pop the stock off and tell you what it weights. Great rifle. Get one!

Sounds good. I just want to know if a mcmillan edge or manners 100% carbon fiber weighs compared to the standard stock.

I think I read that the wood stock weighed about 6ish ounces more than the synthetic, but I can't swear to it.

I just ordered a 6.5 CM in the FDE synthetic stock. From the photo it looks different than the black synthetic stock but we'll see when it shows up.

Not to disagree with u Pittu, but the synthetic actually weighs more than the wood, according to the website. So not sure, hoping to get weight on both!

No problem, it was an "internet fact" so I should have kept my trap shut. I believe stainless is about 5% heavier than carbon steel so that might be a little of the weight difference too.

I weighed the FDE tupperware stock on a postal scale today at work. With the trigger guard and magazine included, it weighed 31 ounces. Without the magazine it weighed 28.5 ounces.

The factory rifle with talley lightweights and a 3-9x33 UL Leupy weighs 6 lbs 8 oz.

I was surprised how much the stock alone weighed. The barreled action feels really light, but the whole rifle all together doesnt "feel" as light as I'd thought it would.

The fit of the stock to the action is not very good, I realize that its a Savage and not some custom rig, but a fair gap under the tang and the barrel not centered in the channel.....meh.

I haven't wrung it out yet, but the accuracy on the first range session was ho hum. Inch and a half or so for 5 rounds. On the other hand, the recoil was very tame considering it's such a lightweight.

my wife has the Savage Ladyhunter which is similar except for stock shape. It is very accurate. shoots well. shoulders excellent. looks good too.
Of course, Hers has a few added extras on it.

She killed it at our new lease in Flowers (Near Vicksburg).
It was weird deer, needed killing.
older deer, 17+ spread, only 6 pts, no brow tines, and the other tines were short.
His neck was not swelled up and the back looked like he had lost weight, skinny on the backstraps and back legs. Field dressed only a little over 110, so about 145 live weight.

Funny thing. I had just came to get her at 11 a.m. I sat down on the ground beside her sack chair at the end of the ridge/bluff. We were talking and she's looking at me and see's the deer past my head and tells me to be quiet a buck is behind me. I turn and look and just lay down so she could shoot. it's a steep angle down (the bluff)and about 50 yards and a front quartering to her shot. Tip of the barrel ab out 20 inches above my face. (it's a good thing I trust her, lol)

Bullet hit on front shoulder. You could put 3 fingers in the entry hold and exit was a little larger. great lung shot.
I'm wondering about the entry hole.
I notice something weird on the horn. Part of a base burr was broken off with a fresh nick on the hide where the horn part broke off.

With the angle and the deer's head placement I'm wondering if the bullet scraped the burr breaking it off and turned sideways to make the entry wound so large?

I'm gonna Revive this old thread to see if anyone has any new info. I have a 11 LWH with the wood stock, is there any stock out there lighter weight that is readily available? Hunting high, always looking for weight savings on everything I pack for a day of walking.
