I'd like to buy a good travel case for my Verney-Carron Impact Plus bolt action take down rifle.
I want it to be as short and compact as possible, room for the 24" barrel with fore-end attached, and for the action/butstock assembly with the bolt out. Scope will be in QD mounts.
All the cases I've found so far are for double rifles, or fitted for specific Blaser or Merkel or Sauer bolt actions, none seem appropriate for this model. Generic foam lined cases are often much too long, 38" or so, and i'd prefer compartments for each component. Case length need only be about 26" and i'd not like to exceed that my much.
Do I need to get someone like Americase to make me a custom?

A possibility:

I don't have a Murray rifle case, but I do have some of his slings and ammo pouches - his work is top notch.

thanks David, I bet Murray Custom Leather could make a real nice soft case to fit, but I am looking for a hard case that I can take on a plane.

I see.

Have you looked at Negrini's?

Maybe one of their case's would work for you.

Yes, I have looked at Negrini, from what I saw on their website, the cases they have that are otherwise suitable are for double rifles.

They have some double rifle cases that have provisions for scopes - I believe these could be made to work for your application though additional fitting may be required as their case mey be a little roomier than desired. They have a form you can fill out online to get help with your application.

For more discerning tastes and the perfect fit there's Huey (go to the middle of the page):

Doscocil Gun Guard made an accessory case that was 26.75x14" Just one compartment but pretty easy to make dividers or custom foam. These cases dont show up much but possibly on Ebay or other sites

Or contact Americase, Waxahachi, Tx for a custom Aluminum frame, synthetic side panels, lined, custom fit.

Want leather, most any saddle maker can fill your need.

I bought a factory case for my Blaser two bbl set.

Best,

Jack

This is what I did for my Verney Double.

You may want to look at Pelican luggage with foam inserts. It'll be about the right size, not as heavy as a regular Pelican case and won't be readily identifiable as a gun case. Of course, you can always place the gun case in a duffel bag to protect the case and give it some camouflage.

Don't know if it's what you had in mind but TuffPak now makes a shorter case for takedown firearms. It has the added benefit of people having no idea that it is a gun case so you won't get any strange looks walking through a metropolitan airport.

I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all.

That tuffpak looks interesting! A tuffpak in combination with a soft case is an option I might have to consider.

Uncle Mike's makes a very nice cordura takedown case, well make with padded compartment for the barrel/forearm. Worked well for my takedown .22 rifles and did not break the budget.

Yeah, I use those Uncle Mike's, along with a couple Boyt takedown soft cases, for my takedown Savage lever guns, and double barreled shotguns.
