I had an 06 w/ the 4.6 V8 (I think that was it maybe 4.7?) and it was wayyyy underpower. Not sure I'd want a full size w/ the 6. I have the 5.3 in my 10 crew, 14 crew, and 15 Tahoe and all have been great vehicles!

"This 4.3-liter power plant makes 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque and is an all-new V6 engine, despite it carrying over the same displacement as the previous Silverado V6."

It's not the weak old V6 engine used by fleet and commercial buyers years ago.

285 hp and 305 lb ft of torque are about 100 HP and 100 lb ft less than most comparable trucks and probably won't get any better fuel mileage. Still pretty weak to pull around a full size 4 door truck. I made that mistake once.

That engine will probably do just fine in a regular cab that isn't asked to haul much weight or tow much. But I'd not want it in a 4X4 DC.

A 2005 Chevy Silverado 5.3 makes 295hp and 335 lb-ft of torque. That truck did alroght but I wanted something bigger after pulling a light travel trailer over the Rockies. As a DD and not towing, that truck did fine. The six seems close to those numbers.

I have one in a 2016 regular cab. I traded my '03 s-10 in on it. Big difference in engines, actually no comparison. It almost never gets below 24 mpg. It runs as well as my 2014 silverado work truck with a 5.3. I can't compare the v-6 to my work truck because it spends a lot of time in 4 low. I haven't hauled or pulled anything with it yet either. However it seems a little snappier than my 2014. I really like it so far.

I have a 2013 1/2 ton Chevrolet 2 wheel drive standard cab truck that needs at least 2 miles of open road to pass a Subaru. I did get a speeding ticket in a 45 MPH zone one time and the cop asked me why I was doing 55 in a 45 zone. I told him that was all the faster I could get with that truck.

I drove my FIL's V6 truck from that line and it was horrendously under powered. I bet it gets great mileage but it was a super dog in the power dept.

I only have experience with the GMs. It's my opinion that the 1500s need the 5.3 and the 2500s need the 6.6. The 4.3 is quite underpowered for practical use unless driving to get groceries weekly. The 2500 reg cab long bed I had with the 6.0 was a chugger and got awful fuel mileage. For a truck that's on the road hauling and pulling the 6.6 is stronger and more efficient. I have a 13 ext cab long bed now and load it to the max pay load in the bed as much or more than I tow a heavy load. The 6.0 got 9 mpg. Now I'm still 13-14. The warranty is almost up and it's acting silly. Been in regen for two weeks now. Going to delete the emissions and tune and will see an increase in mirage.
