Last year Performance Shooting had Browning do a few special runs of the BAR ShortTrac .308 with fluted carbine barrel. The first run was synthetic stock, the second run was wood stock.

I bought a wood stock one and LOVE it. Hard to find a lighter, more compact .308 auto-loader for thick cover. I see now the newer Browning BAR MK3 is no longer made with different action lengths. And that is what I really liked about the ShortTrac!

I let my father, now 85 years old and still loves deer hunting, use my new ShortTrac carbine a few weeks ago for deer season. He fell in love with that sweet little gun during the week, and even took a buck with it, made my entire year. Now I'm trying to find another of the carbines from Performance Shooting.

I've called P.S. to see if they have any left over. Nope. So if you happen to know where one of these ShortTrac fluted carbines might be available, I'd like to know about it. Thanks in advance!

Every once in a while they pop up on gunbroker. I'd sign up for an account and set up the search feature. It will email you when one comes up. Another option is to buy a full length version for $300 less and get it cut down. Might not be fluted but take an extra 3/4" off and you probably have the weight savings. Good luck. I wanted one of the comp versions but couldn't justify the price for the amount I'd use it.
