I just reread an old article (1988) by Lane Simpson about 6mm cartridges. He said an old friend of his killed 150 whitetails with various 6mm's cartridges and one bullet ... the Sierra 85 gr spitzer. I've used the Sierra 85 gr HPBT for quite some time with outstanding results, but never tried the 85 gr spitzer. Just wondering if anyone else has had good or bad results with the 85 gr spitzer on deer ? Ben

My favorite bullet from my 6mm Remmy. Couldn't begin to tell you how many have been killed with this bullet by my dad and I with the 6 and several from the 243 as well.

Broadside usually shoots right through them. Short trails if any tracks are even made.

What's the part number on the 85 gr spitzer?

Will Munny: It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have.

The Schofield Kid: Yeah, well, I guess they had it coming.

Thanks looks like a perfect deer bullet for the 6x45.

I've bonked a few deer with them...I actually prefer it to the more popular 85 HP...I am loading it being pushed by 30 grains of 4198 in a 243.... so its a light recoiler, even for 243s....

its listed by Sierra as a varmint bullet, but it does better on deer than Sierra thinks, is what I am guessing...

What velocity are you getting with your load?

Its actually a bullet that a couple of their techs recommend.

I never liked the BTHP as it seemed too tough, quite a few runners where the SP gave me more DRT kills.

I've had better luck with the 85 gr HPBT over the Nosler 95 BT. Just my $.02.

Hopefully, I'll have the 85 BTHP Sierra and the 95 NBT compared side by side on a couple of javelina.

2750 to 2800 Range IIRC and depending upon barrel length...

I've got 243s from 20 inch to 26 inch barrels...

Essentially a 6x45 then.

Don't overlook the 87 grain Berger VLD if you'd like a bullet that's a little stouter than the 85 gr BTHP.
