I always thought an S&W, three inch bull barrel, round butt frame, Model 13/65 chambered (five rounds) in .44 Special would have been pretty ideal. Of course they'd change the model number.

I know it can be done because the Carter Arms Bulldog .44 Special cylinder is no larger around than that on the S&W Model 13/65.

Just picked this up at my FFL, Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Classic. Just like the one I bought new back in the early 1980s (then stupidly sold before 1990). Over all size is about like a three inch barrel Colt Detective Special.

Nice feeling action. Cylinder locks up very tight.

It came with some very nice wood grips, but in such a light gun (19 oz) in .44 Special, no way I'm keeping wood grips on it. I immediately switched them for the grips I had on my Bulldog back in the 1980s.

Very nice, but at 36 oz it's hard to justify over a S&W in .44 Magnum, which can (if you choose) be used strictly as a .44 Special. Not much if any more weight, an extra round in the cylinder, and has the capability (if chosen) to take Magnums too.

Still such a neat gun that it will likely do well, though.

There is, I prefer the Rugers. Prices between this and the comparable Smith L frame are near the same. I'll take a GP over an L frame any day.

Those aren't DA guns.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hey Berkowitz! I like that shooter but I'd put some rounds through it before I bragged on it much!

I gotta admit that I like this GP aplenty. It has been surprisingly awesome.

Just picked it up this afternoon. Haven't been to the range yet. I'll be shooting 200 grain Blazer Gold Dot JHP because that's what I have on hand.

'Twere it my wont to carry a small revolver for CCW, it would definitely be the Bulldog (I've got the SS Pug). Noticeably lighter and smaller than the GP and if you're shooting 200 gr Gold Dots under 900 fps, it's not too bad. Tough little guns.

I doubt the GP was aimed at that market. It fits better as an all around, general purpose outdoor/backup gun. It is exactly as I would've spec'd if I was ordering a custom. Wonder how much business Ruger diverted from custom guys who converted GP's into 5 shot .44 Spl?

Mine was pretty dang good outta the box and after some stoning and a spring kit, it has a fantastic DA pull (and, yes Clark, SA as well.) I love mine and find it about perfect. Once this hideous winter clears up and I can dare to venture off road I'm gonna find a nice load for mine that I can churn out on the Dillon.
