Cold, snowy afternoon in the hinterland.

Bored in the house...

Please post up some pics of semi-recently taken public land mule deer.

You don't even have to mention what state, just curious what you guys are finding out there on public ground....

Democracy is not freedom. Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to eat for lunch. Freedom comes from the recognition of certain rights which may not be taken, not even by a 99% vote.

Same ol' pictures I have posted before...but what's one more time?

This buck lives on a river bottom in Idaho. He bounces back and forth between private land and public land (mostly BOR, but some BLM and county irrigation district lands).

Wyoming BLM, but very close to private hay fields (yes, I had to cross this in my underwear).

Montana Forest Service-GREAT buck for the area which traditionally has not had the genetics for big antlers

Two different Montana Forest Service bucks from the same area-much more typical for the unit

Public land is great, how many years to draw a tag on those lands is another thing all together.

These are a few of the bucks around my place which is mostly national forest.

[Linked Image]

The one on the left is the same buck as above.

This younger buck was running with them, but LOOK at the height of those antlers.

And I got this guy on my cell phone a couple weeks ago.

This was packing out my partner's big 2x2 last year. You can just see the head on the last llama. He got it about 3 miles back so the llamas got some trail duty. It doesn't take 3 of them for a deer. I just took 3 to give them some exercise. 1 can do a small deer. The lead one just carried my rifle and lunch.

Photobucket is being a bugger no doubt.
I have switched to Imgur, as recommended by several on this site.

I will see if I can upload some of the mulie pictures to that site and repost them here. No promises as I am not exactly a computer genius laugh

The 8th one down was a WY buck. The rest are either WY, MT or ID. All but the velvet buck were taken on general seasons or unlimited tags. I will take a 2x2 muley over an average 5x5 whitetail. I don't know why but I like them way better.

I'm going to need it and a pair of track shoes to keep up with my partner! wink

I'm guessing you won't regret it.

25-06'd him at 212 yards. Nosler 115 Blue Cyclone Ballistic Tip did the job, again.

We had some luck with our public land mule deer hunt this year... I and my buddy pack video cameras around and shoot footage here and there, then when we get home, I try to make something out of it...Remember guys, this is strictly amateur and mostly for fun.. wink

For those that like to talk bullet performance and caliber it goes like this,

First buck was at 433 yards..260ai with 135 Berger classic hunters..3100 fps MV..

Second was extended range with a 28 Nosler..180 Berger VLD's and started at 3200 fps...While it appears the shot was back, actually it wasn't..Took out one lung and the liver..He was found right where he backed into the mahagony's ..

The third buck is the weird one..Also a 260ai,but shooting 143 ELD-X's..The bullet hit the shoulder square at 350 yards, then deflected up and out the top of his back, somehow missing the spine..You can then see it impact the hill above the buck..It looks like the shot was high, but that is where the bullet exited...Just flat bounced off..

We are rethinking the ELD-X's..LOL
