dont know if im smoking something or not but i feel that my bullets are impacting weird when i sighted in my scope last night

ive got a mosin nagant thats in a archangel stock with a rock solid industries scope mount with a vortex crossfire II 3-9 on it.

what i noticed when sighting in my scope was after i got a 25 yard 0 and moved out to 50 yards the bullets were impacting 5 inches high. i would expect it to be off but not 5 inches off. after adjusting to a 50 yard zero i moved out to 100 yards and i was hitting 10 inches high. i zeroed it again at 100 yards and got a consistent 3-4 inch groups (happy enough with them). my question is why would i be off that much when moving out incrementally like i did? usually when i sight in at 25 yards and move out to 50 or 100 yards im only off an inch or maybe 2, not almost a foot. is it possible my mount is not parallel to the bore? (does that matter?) Anyone else have this same issue? thoughts?

25 yard sight in ? Have the crosshairs centered on the BE and the bullet impact about one inch or so BELOW that aiming point. 50 should be mo'bettah for ya.

How high above the bore is your scope ? If it's 3 inches above the bore your bullet is coming up at a pretty steep angle to meet point of aim at 25 yards and I'd expect it to be several inches high at 50 and 100.

they are 1 inch warne maxima TPA scope rings. the bottom of the lens is about 1/4-1/2 inch off the bore.

Now that your sighted in a 100, where do the bullets hit at 25 and 50 yards?

With what scope ? The center of the scope {and hence the intersection of your crosshairs} is alot farther above the bore line when you have a 50mm objectine vs a 32mm.

Completely dependant on the height of the crosshairs over the bore line.'

Yeah.

And I'll bet it doesn't shoot 15 inches low at 25 yards.

Meant to be a baseline. It's easy to have it sighted @ 100 yds. in 3 shots if you have a rifle vise.

Better know your scope to have it hit the bull on the 3rd shot. Rifle vise makes it a no brainer. Eezy peazy grin

I have done it in one shot. As in fire one round, adjust the scope, and every subsequent round hits right where it's supposed to........... crazy

I bore sighted a rifle years ago using a phone book and some pillows while sitting on the couch. My aiming point was a white spot on a piling in a cove at what I guessed to be 100 yards. When I took it to the range I literally didn't have to remove the scope caps. A 5 shot clover leaf dead center 2" high. Pure luck but mostly skill. 😉

When I later got a rangefinder I ranged my spot on the couch to the piling and it was 97 yards.
