In the process of restoring this old .22, but the sights are
missing. Have looked everywhere I can think of but have found
nothing. The rear sight was a side-mounted peep sight and the front
was a combination of dovetail and screw.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find these sights?

I would just substitute a scope, but this model does not have a
dovetail for mounting a scope.

Milling dovetail grooves for a scope is easy for a gunsmith with a vertical mill.

If the rifle is in otherwise good condition and has all the other OEM parts and configuration my recommendation would be to look for the original sights. A Remington collector would
be interested in that rifle if is has not been altered.
You need the Point-Crometer rear peep set and the Remington ramp front sight for the P-C.

The front sight is attached with 2 screws. Numrich carried these sights and the screws. You might check with them. These are undoubtedly the ugliest ramp front sights, but they were successful and Remington even used them on their Mdl 513 target rifles.

The P-C peep sets are not rare and you come across them occasionally on EBray and some WTS forums. You might try the Remington Forum on Rimfirecentral.com and ask if anyone has the sights (AND screws!)avail for sale. My recommendation also is to Google Point-Crometer and become familiar with what the set looks like in case you come across one at a gun show or elsewhere.

Finally, PM me after you have conducted your initial searches.
I might be able to help you out

Thanks, Don.

My statement about the front sight stemmed from the fact that there
is both a dove tail and screw holes to the front and rear of the
dove tail. Wonder if that was for either/or? Have not been able to
find a photo of that setup.

However, scrolling down this page,
http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=889242
there are photos of a rather weathered 550-1P which shows the
rear sight very clearly. A person on another site thinks the same
peep sight arrangement was used on a 510-P. Any knowledge of that?

Danno,,

I modified my post above. Added links that show the P-C.

Pls note on the peep that it has 2 apertures, Each is used as a set screw when the other is in the eyepiece position. When you find a sight make sure the 2 apertures are included as well as the forward pivot/lock screw.

Using a pic, you may want to set up a WTB here on the WTS and on the Rimfire forum. RimfireCentral too.
