I'm going to fish Lake Maria in late July with Ganglers. Anybody else been there?

Ok, so nobody has fished Maria...how about any of the other lodges with Ganglers, or anywhere else on the North Seal River?

I'd like to help you, but I have never fished near there.

I appreciate your response. Doesn't look like anyone else has either. Hoping to catch some monster northerns.

Bobmar, I have no reason to think you should not get on to some good fishing in northern Manitoba. As I understand, no live bait is allowed, but that means little.

You have looked on other forums?

I have no interest in using live bait. From what the outfitter says and the YouTube videos available, that lake (Maria) is a big northern paradise. It's all catch and release with barbless hooks. The Fire is the only site I pay much attention to, so no I haven't checked other forums. I guess I should start looking. I was hopeful to find someone that had been there and just discuss things. Again, thanks for the response.

You welcome to the scant bit I had.
My grandfather "found", Wabigoon Lake in NW Ontario before the internet, like in 1944, or so.

I'll think you will do just fine, Here's to a safe trip, good weather, good fishin', and do me a favor, and be sure to wear your PFD on the water at all times.

PS, Where do you plan on crossing into Canada?

Ha! No worries about that! 26 years on the water, courtesy of the USCG made a believer out of me regarding PFD's! I appreciate your concern. I'm flying into Winnipeg, then a charter, followed by a float plane to the lake. I'm looking forward to a Canadian fishing trip that I've dreamed about for 45 years. Finally going!

Well Bob, I have been in the Winnipeg airport! Terri Clark "introduced" herself to me that day in front of a dentist office. If you have the time, Winnipeg has a lot of history to see.

Are you staying on a "fly in" lake? .

I'll be there for a couple days, going and coming. I suppose I'd have some for Terri, should she be there. Maria is a fly in lake. I'm told it's approximately 200 miles from the nearest road.

Bob, I looked up the lake on Google maps, have you read the thread on Stanfield wool underwear? chuckle.

Have a great, safe time, and take in as much of the good Canadian lore as you can in a short time, eh?

Thanks for your help and good wishes. I'll be prepared for what ever comes, hopefully that will include a 46 inch northern!

Recently returned from my long awaited trip. It was fantastic! We caught fish until it hurt. I easily put 500 northerns, lake trout and grayling in the boat over the week I was there. Many were big fish. This was a fly in lodge and unguided, many miles from anything. The closest road was 200 miles away. Unbelievable fishing and there were only four of us there. I'd post a picture of my first ever lake trout, if I had any idea how. Anyone interested in a Canadian fishing adventure should consider Ganglers. I can't wait to go back.

Bobmar,

Glad to hear you had a great trip!

I used to live in Manitoba, and the hunting and fishing is awesome! Very friendly folks there too.

It was a bit chilly in the mornings. I was glad I packed some wool. In the afternoons it warmed up to T shirt weather. Very comfortable and great fishing weather.

Bobmar, as I understand, Manitoba is no live bait. What were you using?

We used mostly Doctor spoons and Mepps #5's. Johnson Silver Minnows worked well too. I used some soft plastic and buzz baits as well. Honestly, I think anything would have worked.

That sounds like a great trip.

I love fishing up in Canada. Especially the fly in outpost camps

I checked out their web site. Looks like a good outfit. You drive up to Winnipeg and fly in from there?

What was cost for trip if I may ask
