Turkeys with a bow are a blast.
I'll be out on April 12, the Mn opener.

well hanco, did you get to fling an arrow?

I'll be headed back to the farm in two days to give em a whirl. Looks like I'll be hitting the weather just perfect, with it going to be warmer and dry.

No. Not yet, let an aoudad go cause I killed one last rifle season. We don't have any rules about exotic game on this lease, but the other boys would have whined if I had killed another. I have a feeder down in a steep draw, fence is down from water. Game funnels through that gap. I hope a damn Elk comes through there. I have pics of them on game cameras. The other guys don't know about this stand.

I killed two turkeys last year out of 4'x6'x 6' high bow box. It has a 5"x15" gun port in the end. It's dark in there, game can't see you in it. It's by a feeder. It's hard to get bow pulled back up in a tripod. Too many turkey eyes. Turkeys can't see you pull the bow back in the bow box, sometimes it doesn't even scare them off when you fire a bow bullet at them.

We are up here now, gobblers are gobbling like crazy. Deer hunting here is so so, but there is a turkey under every bush. In the fall, nothing to see bunches of 50.

Turkeys are a breeze out of a ground blind or a box. Almost impossible out of elevated open stands.

In ground or box stands they just have to come by close enough and you shoot straight.

Killed quite a few that way including head shots with the bow before I kind of got bored with turkeys.

I go cause it's time to fill feeders, way more interested in catching pigs.

I really like sticking arrows in piggies. I killed a couple last bow season.

No tom yet, but we trapped-killed 27 damn pigs. One sow had 14 piglets, no wonder they reproduce so fast. 9 were females, the litter was 20 to 30 lbs. good chance they all would have reached adulthood.

We have a 2x2 with a hole drilled in it. A 1/16" cable runs from 2x2 to an eight inch pvc cap, then to the opposite side of feeder pen. The cap is under feeder. We put corn in the cap. Pigs either root cap or hit cable. That pulls 2x2 out from under gate. Deer, turkeys, aoudad, or turkeys sometimes hit the trip wire. Works pretty good all in all.

Gate in in the normal open position in this picture. Next time I go I will try to take pic of gate when it's set.

How much do you think feeder will hold? I made 3 of these in 82 or 83. This is only one I have left.

I build trap gates now with one gate. All you need is one gate. Gate is black,so it's hard to see. White cap hard to see also. I have 3 feeder pens. Another guy has one I built also. I wish we had ten setups like this.
