Anyone fishing or hunting out of an 18 or 20' Lund Alaskan? I'm looking for a new boat to upgrade from my 16' tiller steer and debating between a Sea Arc and an Alaskan. I'm curious how low an Alaskan sits in the water? Or more specifically, how far down is the reach into the water if standing or kneeing in the front or side of the boat?
I mostly catfish on the MO river and we routinely bring in 15-45 lb flat heads and blues. Fish that have to be grabbed by a hand or two to bring into the boat, not just lifted in with the rod. Want to make sure it's not too far of a reach to grab them. Several guys around here run Sea Arc's, so I know they sit low and work well, but I kind of like the V hull shape of the Alaskan if going to fish on a lake and the water gets a little rough. Guessing it might ride smoother than a flat bottom.
Thanks in advance for any info. Pictures always appreciated:)

Specifications should show freeboard.

The Alaskan model Lund is much heavier than the SSV models. Too much heavier for those of us that must carry heavy camps and fuel long distances. The newer SSVs have a walk through to make life easier.

The 20' Alaskan is a very good boat often seen on the Great Lakes and the Missouri reservoirs. The interior is economy, but it works. The 18' Alaskan is narrower, poor interior (likely meant to move the customer into a more expensive 18' model) and not even 1/2 the boat the 20 is. I'd like to own a 20' Alaska walkthrough, but I'm not at all interested in the 18' at the dealership 1/2 mile from my house. \ See if you can find comments about Lund Alaskans in www.walleyecentral.com.
