Getting ready for my last African safari, so I decided to take along the most classical 2-rifle battery I could put together. The heavy rifle is a Krieghoff SxS 500 NE 3", while the medium is a Ruger No. 1 Tropical chambered for the 450-400 NE 3".

The primary objective of the trip to Zim is 2 tuskless elephants. I hope one will be taken with the Ruger, if conditions permit. Also plan a couple of PG animals with the 450-400.

I have started loading for the 450-400 as I have not yet hunted with this rifle, but have gotten a few leads from Mule Deer and plan a few shots tomorrow, if the weather cooperates.

I love it! What a great choice! Please post an after action/lessons learned report when you get back.

Used my Searcy 500 NE DB to take my Zimbabwe tuskless. Slug probably still zinging away out there. I always bring my 375H&H as a 2nd,no matter what I'm hunting. I have a phobia of running out or loosing my ammo, and I can always Beg,Borrow or Steal 375H&H.

Changed out the Ruger's factory pad with a LimbSaver pad. Now working on the safety mechanism to allow the rimmed case to freely eject over the top of the tang safety button.

A panel of elephant hide. Brought back 2 panels and both ears, all tanned now. Good pickup.

That looks suspiciously like mine. The Trop safety is a little sketchy if operated muzzle up, but does allow expensive brass
to fly into the grass.
