I would like opinions on this bullet, started at 2550 fps.

General opinion, use, real life field experience appreciated.

I've used this bullet on numerous whitetails, with ideal performance and results though I launched them a bit faster from a 6.5x55. They're accurate, effective and relatively cheap. Not much about them that's tough to like.

I like the 129 SP so much that I have never done more than shoot paper with the 140, but, as well as the 129 has worked on caribou, I don't doubt that the 140 would be more of the same and useful even on bigger stuff.

It's an effective bullet, even at that lower velocity. It was the first bullet I used when I started handloading and my initial accuracy load was very close to your stated velocity at 2,535 fps.

It took a small mule deer buck without drama at 235 yards. I've since moved on to the 129g Hornady Interlock for a bit more velocity and flatter shooting, with equally good results.

I have some loaded, and am also working up a load with 130 gr accubonds - but WOW! What a price difference.

I, too, have gone with the 129 in my .260. The 140 will do whatever you want it to. I have never had any issues with accuracy with the Hornady bullets. They are inexpensive and just plain work.

I'm sure it's a fine bullet, I'm a Nosler-Barnes guy.

I ran the bullet in both RN and spire point styles, pushed to 2450 fps out of my 6.5x55 Swede 96 open sight rifle. I took a 14 point Mule deer, several feral hogs and a few Whitetails, never needed a different bullet in that rifle.

Started that slow, and if the range gets to be much at all, it will be a slow killer on lung shots.

Use the Accubond for killing.

Dakota Deer, have you had experience with this particular Hornady at slower velocities?

I have used that bullet some but found that I liked the 140 Sierra Game King better. I have killed a lot of stuff with the 140 SGK from black bears to elk to antelope in a 260 and 260AI. Works great and seems to be easier to get good accuracy than the 140 IL in my experience.

Dennis, it shoots the Hornady very very well. How were on game results for you with the Hornady?

BTW, Accubonds turned in beautiful groups this morning as well.

My wife shot 10pt buck at over 200 yards with a Ruger stainless 260. Shed the jacket, core ended up in the spine. It was dead but not what I was expecting from a 140gr bullet. Shot was in a wide open hay field so no deflection occurred.

Yes, shot four deer with it a decade ago with a 18.5 260Rem not loaded hot. It doesn't do much damage in the lungs, and every deer ran quite a ways.

I use the 140 gr. Interlock R.N. in a 6.5x55. Bang - flop on whitetail.

Interlocks have a good rep, and I've used some in both factory and handloads, with excellent results, but have not used them in in .264.

My .260 doesn't seem to like anything but 140s, and using factory (blasphemy!), Corelocts (blasphemy) It has taken several caribou, out to 300 plus, an elk (150), and a wolf (40) with no complaints at all. I've seen no fragmentation and have recovered no bullets.(I seldom do- I have no idea how you guys are avoiding exit wounds... . )

I have zero doubt that when I start handloading for the thing either Interlocts or Corelocts will do just fine. Also SGK. They all should work fine at modest speeds, probably not so well in a .264 Mag.

You never mentioned why you are only starting the bullet at 2550. You should get better than that with most rifles.

That is where the accuracy happens to be. That is also typical factory ammo velocities (though I am reloading) .

Model 96, older gun, why stress it?
