IT'S ALMOST TIME TO FERTILIZE YOUR CHESTNUT HILL OUTDOORS TREES
Chestnut Hill American-1
Now is the time of year to plant Chestnut Hill Outdoors trees, and to take care of the trees that you already have growing.  Good care is essential to profit the most from your investment - you get out of the trees what you put into them. This is a wonderful time of year, with life returning to the woods and it is a great time to get outdoors and enjoy the process of caring for your trees and lands.

Chestnut Hill Outdoors is the home of the nation's number one food plot tree, the Dunstan Chestnut, as well as a variety of other specially selected species that produce foods favored by deer and other wildlife. It would be difficult to find someone who knows more or is as enthusiastic about trees and wildlife as Chestnut Hill Outdoors.

Spring is the perfect time to fertilize established trees.  With new trees, though, you have to be careful not to burn the tender roots of young trees before they become established. When planting bareroot trees or 1-year-old potted trees, Chestnut Hill Outdoors recommends waiting a month to apply fertilizer.

If you purchased our 2- or 3-year-old potted trees, we recommend waiting at least two months after planting to fertilize. Then, use a time-released fertilizer such as Scotts Osmocote Plus Outdoor & indoor (19-6-12). After applying the fertilizer, make sure you water your trees for absorption.

Spread the fertilizer evenly under the entire canopy of the tree, avoiding a 5-inch area around the trunk. Mix in the top 1 to 3 inches of soil, then apply water.

For mature trees, we recommend Scotts Osmocote Flower & Vegetable (14-14-14).

Fertilize established trees in early spring (March/April) after the trees have leafed out and again in early June with the start of summer rains. Do not fertilize in the fall, which can promote late-season tender growth that can be damaged by early frosts.
