I put down 1500 lbs of triple 19 on my hayfield two weeks ago. While I was at it, I drove the fertilizer buggy through my lawn...twice. With all the heat and rain already this year, I am averaging a mowing every other day. I swear I can watch the grass grow when the sun pops out.

That'll do it.

biggest mistake ever made!! Fert. yard one time

Of the time on this earth , that does not even come close as to the biggest mistake I ever made.

You just need a "ridin' lawn mower" like my dad had...

He would tell his friends he got a new riding lawn mower. Back when I was a kid, only the rich had lawn mowers you could ride. Not working folk. You could see them all perk up...

Then my dad would say "Yeah, I ride Barry's ass 'til he mows the damn lawn"....

I resemble that remark about 40 yrs ago.

Same with dishwashers..... we not only had one, we had two.

One wet spring I dosed my front lawn with whatever blend we had been running for spring wheat.

Liberal application.


Super green looked great but had to mow at least twice a week for 2-3 weeks. Got almost too thick, slight thatch problem a couple years later.

Some of the local beer drinking buddies once thought it would be a good prank to put a few bags of ammonium nitrate (nitrogen) on one of their fellow buddies lawn. Poor guy told them he didn't have time to drink with them anymore, as he was too busy mowing every other day. I fertilize my yard every year. I try to do it in the fall, so as to promote good root growth. If I don't get to that, I'll put some 10-10-10 down in late January or early February. I have a spreader on my 4-wheeler, and I'll just buy about six 50 pound bags and put them on. I also fertilize my fruit trees and flower beds at the same time.

I'd swap to much grass for our creeping charlie, any takers?

I mowed yesterday!

Had some fun with a neighbor who never fertilized years ago. One March when he wasn't home we had about a 1" snow and it was getting warm again. I walked out the logo of my alma mater who he hated. I then went back and carefully applied fertilizer to the exact path I had walked out. Snow melted about 2 hours later.

About 6 weeks went by and he called me cussing and laughing. He fertilized after that and my logo disappeared. Kind of fun.

I used to do that with rye grass seed to my neighbors yard
