A while back, I was on a moose hunt up in Manitoba, Canada. The outfitter asked me "what are you using?", I told him a 30-06. He then said "good luck!", I asked him why? He said "the 30-06 is obsolete!" I obliged him with a good laugh and then later, a dead moose. It was the only hunt I went on with this guy. It's amazing what a great "obsolete" cartridge the 30-06 still is! And everything I've ever killed with it is still dead! Sometimes I stray from it, but it's never far away.

It is far from my favorite hunting cartridge, but the 30-06 is no more obsolete than diesel fuel.

Saying something is obsolete is not necessarily implying that it has lost its effectiveness.

I would consider the .224 Weatherby, 7x61 S&H, 300H&H, .358 Norma-mag as obsolete,
but not any less effective.

Did he offer a suggestion for a non-obsolete cartridge?

Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed!

More to the point, last fall my 30-06 helped me take: pronghorn, mule deer, black bear and elk...

Obsolete? Perhaps, but dang, it sure worked!

The 30-06 is the MOAB in the cartridge world.

Its the many (but not all) Rolex owners that suck.
Their pretentious attitudes were backward and obsolete from day one of them owning a Rolex.

now go see a doctor about some lithium for your obvious mental problem, because this thread
is about the .30/06 cartridge, not a military .30 cal. Rolex.

My BIL flashed around with his Rolex.

Enjoyed reminding him that my Seiko kept better time.

As long as we're talking medication, you know those blue pills won't make you taller, right?

If it's obsolete, does that make mine a collectors item? Is it worth more money now?

If you reload, there's no such thing as an obsolete cartridge.
