Occurred to me that since these are such heavy for caliber bullets that maybe a slower than normal burning powder might work well. Turned out to be so. Here's 10 shots from my 6.5x47 with 7828ssc. Didn't chrono this particular charge, but 41.2gr clocked about 2730. I suspect these will run about 2760.

Damn, that's good stuff John. How tough was it to get that much 7828ssc into the case?

Wasn't too bad. Mildly compressed load. Charge comes to the bottom of the case neck.

Roger that, thanks. I'll have to give that a try. Lord knows I will try 7828 anywhere that it's even kind of applicable... grin

The Creed has slightly more capacity and the Lapua operates at a slightly higher pressure?

Creed has slightly higher capacity and specs at 62000 psi. 6.5x47 pressure spec is 63090 psi but it is one heck of a stout case and folks routinely load a bit higher than that. No pressure signs with the load shown above though.

I tried the SSC version. The regular cut might be a pretty tight fit.

Those long bullets crunched pretty good in my .260 cases with a heavy load of Re19 seated to 2.848. Shot great at 2724.

Now let's see some 3-shot groups and see what it will really do! Oh, and what POI are you going for smile

Yes, heavies like slow powders in small bores no doubt. Good shooting. How hot did the bbl get btw?

My intuition of this round being a hit was spot on when this round hit the scene. Was at SHOT when it debuted. The RUAG booth was right next to Lapua and they seemed pissed. 6x47 Swiss.....

No flies on a Swede, Creedmoor, or properly loaded 260.

But like others here the 47 is my 6.5 flave of the day.

Good speeds for a 147, in a 47

Correction on velocities. After checking my notes, I saw that the 41.2 charge actually clocked 2715, so I'm guessing the 41.6 charge shown above will go 2740ish.

There are a bunch of three shot groups in that 10 shot group, so take your pick.grin

Rifle currently zeroed for a 130gr VLD load, so you'll have to forgive me on that.

I could still hold on to it.

Have had good success with IMR 7828 ssc in both the 260 and 6.5x55 as well using 140's or heavier so I'm not surprised with your results.

With its smaller capacity, I wasn't sure 7828ssc would work well in the 6.5x47. Was happy it does though, at least with the 147s.

John, the VLD as you know has a reputation on Deer, etc. Not a bad place to be. IIRC 7828 also works well with 100s in 243s and 6 Rem.

Have you tried any faster powders just to see what it would do with 147s? Not that they would be any faster. That's good speeds from a small capacity round, pushing that weight as you know.

No doubt the 147 overtakes the lighter weight bullets downrange. The 47 to me seems to be great for pushing 100 and 120 TTSX, 120 BTs, 130 ABs, and VLDs. That is how I intend to use mine for most hunting needs in how I hunt. I waxed a buck at 275 in a K1A Swede w/the 130 AB. DRT. I have complete confidence in 120-130s to 400-500 yds with shot placement. I know that can be stretched - Alan dumped his elk near 1k with a 127 LRX IIRC.

Recall talking to someone who knew a fella dumping hogs across Tx, and deer, using a 6-6.5x47. Using VLDs, he headshot many hogs as I recall to good distances. Accurate and flat.

I foresee many future field pics with your 47 John.

I've killed several critters with VLDs; pigs deer and coyotes. They work good. Killed a doe at 410 yards with the x47 and 140gr Amax last fall. Also worked good.

With my loads, the 147gr ELD catches the 130gr VLD in velocity by 350 yards and continues to gain after that. BC is the gift that keeps on giving. I expect good things.

Varget starts showing pressure signs with the 147 at a hair over 2700. Works good with anything up to and including 140s though. H4350 gives good velocities with the 147s and works good with 140s too. I prefer Varget to 4350 with 130s and lighter though. Neither 4350 nor Varget matches 7828ssc in velocity or accuracy with the 147.

Good stuff thanks. I would have thought that about Varget and H4350. Those are the two I run. The 147's definitely have a place. Probably a mini ICBM and guessing longer than a 277 150 BT.

I'm getting under 3/4" five shot groups in my 6.5x284 with 45 grains of RL17 in Norma brass. With the 147. Will velocity calibration once I get them to 1k.
