I just acquired a very nice 1959 version of this rifle with the varmint heavy barrel. The original SAKO rings are long gone. Was wondering if any of the more informed board members could tell me which SAKO rings to watch for on eBay. Would like to know which rings they came with from the factory. Thanks in advance.

I know nothing of your question, but I saw one in a shop in KC a month ago. Kinda wish I'd brought it home.

I have a '68/'69 L461 with the above "low" rings. They limit the ocular lens to about 1.4" outside diameter in order to clear the bolt handle when opened. So, I think I would stick with the mediums (or high if you have a scope with a large objective). To mount a larger scope, I found some Leupold rings, probably on ebay. By the way, I looked at pictures of L46's on line and the mounting system look identical to the L461. Hope this helps.

I have the same action with the skinny barrel. I put a 2-7 Leupold in med Leupold rings on it. The bolt handle lightly rubbed the rear of the scope when working the action. I had to go to the high leupold rings. Now it does not touch the scope at all.

Talley 2 piece rings and bases are the ticket. They look and work a lot better than the Sako rings.
