Just reading the thread on the Elk Hunting forum regarding "I might be running out of hunting partners" that was started by Rock Chuck.

We used to have a "Swap Hunt" forum. But it got overloaded and eventually discontinued. Or maybe that was another forum?

It occurred to me that we might consider a "Seeking Hunting Partner" forum.

Take reasonable precautions. Swap information:
describe your hunting experience,
describe your general health and physical condition,
what kind of hunt are you looking for?,
what are you looking for in a partner?,
something about gun safety, etc.

What do you guys think?

Risky?

KC

I might be interested. My hunting partner got a job offer out of state he could not turn down. I haven't found a suitable replacement yet.

It's worth a try,
My hunting partner has hit bad times both personally & professionally, and lost another because he didn't like killing anymore ?

I mainly bowhunt/gun whitetails, hunt Ohio, Illinois every year...looking to add Missouri or Kansas to the list.

I'd consider hunting elk, deer or antelope down south with a fellow Fire member. Have a good amount of NR points in CO, NV, UT and WYO.

55 Y.O., Getting into "sheep shape" for this fall's Alaska Range hunt out of Tok. Generally just try to stay in shape. 40 years hunting experience in AK. Have multiple pairs of broken-in hunting boots cool

KC, We used to have something like that here for fishermen. It was a Yahoo Group called ReelFishermen. A typical post would read something like "going under Haulover Bridge at 7 a.m. Help with gas and bait. PM for instructions to meet at launch".

Unfortunately, the group died out slowly after the founder passed of cancer a few years back. Geat guy. RIP, brother.

Solo hunting has it's moments, but with hunting and fishing I have way more fun with a good partner or two. I think I need to go hunting with muskegman.

KC - I think it to be a helpful idea worth a try, especially for those new to areas or who have lost old pards.

Almost always I have hunted solo (simply the preference). But, have enjoyed some very special hunting times with a few good fellows.

I've seen a forum on another site that had this, and it was pretty successful.

Lots of people hooked up that way.

The forum would need rules though, such as hunt swap/hunting partner only posts.

Otherwise it just turns into a place for people to lease hunts, or sell hunts.

No money involved would need to be a rule. It just keeps things the way it was intended.

After too many times waiting for others to show up, I prefer to hunt and fish solo. You wanna be late, cool, if it's your ground or boat, but that's rarely the case for me.

I'd swap an Osceola for a mule deer tho

Other than Ringman, do you have any friends? It's got to be an "awkward" looking world, through your eyes.

I prefer to hunt alone, wandering through the woods or watching a likely looking meadow. But I don't like to camp alone. I like the comaraderie of camp and it's safer when someone knows where you are and when you are supposed to return.

In Colorado "no money" is an imperative since it's illegal to guide without a license. Share the cost of food and fuel (maybe processing) is about where it begins and ends with me. In fact I don't like spending money and then having my guest reimburse me. I prefer for each to pay half at the point of sale.

I just like the company. I met my best hunting buddy on this forum in 2004. But he lives in AZ and I'm in CO. We get together for maybe one hunt each year.

KC, you sound like a guy I could get along with. Food, ice, fuel. That's all it ever was with the ReelFishermen group, if that.

Demanding this and demanding/have to be that.. Some of you guys would phougk up a wet dream.

I'll vouch for KC. He's a good man that I've met and spoke with at two 24 hour campfire get togethers.

We even went hunting, at different times, on the same river in Alaska. I'd go hunting with him.

Does anyone really want an audience when casting for a hunting partnership?

That concept sounds like something I'd be interested in as well. I might add that it could apply to hunting AND fishing as well. My wife and I have no kids, but all of my hunting and fishing partners do. I can never find anyone to go with anymore, though I don't begrudge them at all for spending time with their families, that is what they should be doing.

I have preference points in WY, CO and UT for big game, but I am interested in hunting or fishing for just about anything. I think I'm in good shape and easy to get along with, always insist on doing my share of the work and paying my share of the expenses. I think it has been 4 years since I bought a hunting license, used to hunt 50-60 days a year. I'd love the chance to get back into it again.

Fireballz,
You have a child with a terminal illness, and in the middle of selling your home and moving...yet somehow find coming here and trolling and bashing members a priority in your life ??? A little bit of advice, find your path before divorce lands on your plate next.

I still don't know anything more than fireball putting Travis' personal info out for everyone to see. I haven't seen the full dust up though. I liked and miss Travis' whit.

You're developing a rather abrasive, sense of pseudo- righteous indignation yourself, over what and who you have no idea. But, of course, you think you do. You been here what 3 months, and you think you know the score on this and other stuff, without any real history here. You have an amazing short little span of attention, like a year old bird dog, ears up, listening to all the multiple, big guys commands. Get some real history and experience, read for yourself, and maybe you'll get a clue.
Or not...... 3 months and 868 posts. I doubt you get out in the timber much, unless its in your backyard, to feed the birds.

You have an amazing short little span of attention, like a year old bird dog, ears up, listening to all the big guys commands. Get some real history and experience, read for yourself, and maybe you'll get a clue.

Fireballz,
You have a child with a terminal illness, and in the middle of selling your home and moving...yet somehow find coming here and trolling and bashing members a priority in your life ??? A little bit of advice, find your path before divorce lands on your plate next.

Want to try your line on me, sister?

And you have none., to add, even less class than a moron.. Maybe you're a Lefty, accusing others of what you really are.
There's a place for you in this world too. You sure got the big boy expletives down, been hanging with the big guy losers I see.

You're a joke, a typical femalewantabe with a spiteful passive aggressive twitch...you know nothing about me. I've been here long enough to character diagnose the regular members, and I know who/what you are...odds are good you out weigh me and look like a bulldog, still bitter and lonely searching for attention...hoping to find it here.

Hey ! Why not just PM me so I can tell you what I REALLY think, then you can save the PM's to use later against me in some deviant scumbag manner...attempting to play the smart flipflop queen, while you're really only a snake.

You have a great day, talk to you later Honey Booboo smile

Is it my imagination, or has the ratio of useful information related to hunting/fishing/outdoors stuff to whiny-ass pissing and moaning gone way down over the last year or two?

Seems like the "real" forums that have to do with hunting can go a day or so without a new post while the "Freak Show" (Hunter's Campfire) gets all the traffic.

What the hell is the matter with people.

It might have been here, or elsewhere. I know the story took place in Texas. Somebody hooked up with some guys online to go deer hunting. It sounded like a really good match-up. The poor sap shows up at a trailer in the desert, and immediately realized he was in the wrong kind of company when all the guys started hugging and kissing. Yikes!

"So ... Has anybody hooked up yet?" Yes, it is being discussed through PM's, and does show promise.

Shaman, most choices are a compromise - did the land hold deer?

You have to ask yourself "Would I take someone hunting that would go hunting with me?"

Your posts show intelligence, wit, and a willingness to help. (Among other things) were you closer to ohio, I would concider it.

From the way you speak to women on this site, I would agree. Thank you for the offer, but no thanks.

Fireballz,
You have a child with a terminal illness, and in the middle of selling your home and moving...yet somehow find coming here and trolling and bashing members a priority in your life ??? A little bit of advice, find your path before divorce lands on your plate next.

You are a strange and deranged Mofo, there is something inherently wrong with your mental stability.

Don't pretend you know something you know little about, especially my life. You forgot I work 10-12 hours a day running my business.

Did it ever occur to anyone that a persons patience for the trolls on this site wears out at some point? That time has come. You clowns get a little pushback and you cry like the little bitches you are. Put on your big boy pants and own your crap and the firestorm it brings.

Although I appreciate your zeal for deer hunting. . .

It kind of reminds me of the joke that has the punchline: " . . . So the bear leans over and whispers in the guy's ear, 'This isn't about hunting anymore is it?'"
