Do a search on the Campfire. There are some things you probably should know.

I had an 88, which was their lever action version. I carried it one season and sold it. I couldn't stand the trigger, and it just didn't campare to my Savage Model 99's.

Bought one new 1965 (I think) in .284. Took a lot of whitetail. Loved it. Hunted 24 years with it. Stock design put me exactly in the sights when I threw it to my shoulder. One of the most reliable guns I ever had.

BE STRONG IN THE LORD, AND IN HIS MIGHTY POWER. ~ Ephesians 6:10

Socialism is a philosophy of failure,
the creed of ignorance,
and the gospel of envy,
its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.

I currently have three Winchester 100s, 308x2 and a 243, that I like and have found to be very reliable. In addition to these three, I have owned several others in 243, 284, and 308. I had nothing but trouble with the 100s in 284 due to failures to feed. I have found the 243 and 308 magazines to be mostly interchangeable, while the 284s were very magazine sensitive. I have read all sorts of bad things about the Winchester 100s, but other than the magazine issues with the 284s, I'm happy with the 243 and 308s. Just like with any semi-auto, you've got to keep it clean and rust free. I've heard about people having problems with rusted chambers, but that seems like an operator maintenance failure, not a fault of the design or materials. My Winchester 100s are 1.5 to 2.5 MOA rifles, not super accurate, but easily accurate enough for most hunting situations within 300+/- yards.

I've had 4 over the years, 20 or so years ago, I had one in all 3 calibers made. Out of that trio, the 243 and 284 never gave me a problem. The 308 would not eject or failed to feed once in every 3 or 4 shots. Had to sell them all over time. Last year, picked up one in 284. It's at the gunsmith now and not sure of the verdict on it. He polished the chamber and it still failed. He is replacing some of the internal parts and we'll see. Hopefully you will have a long and joyful relationship with it...lol. Not sure why others have been drawn to the model 100, but my story is...when I was a kid and we would meet up to go deer hunting, my uncle had 1 in a 308 and I loved the basket weave stock. Thought it was "pretty" and always wanted one!

My 243s and 308s have always worked fine. Like any semi-auto, except maybe the AKs, you've got to keep them clean and lubricated.
