I am leaving in a couple days for a 5 day DIY grizzly hunt in North Western British Columbia. I will be taking my m77 375 Ruger, and it is shooting well with both the 300gr Nosler Partition and 300gr Swift A-Frames. Both loads are in the 2590 fps range

Shots are expected in the 200y or , I would prefer 75-125y if it works out. I know I am well covered either way, but which bullet would you choose?

thanks for any input

Either will be great, good luck on the hunt. My preference is the Nosler but that is only because I use them a lot.

I sent you a pm at Nosler you may wish to read...........

Either one will work great. Flip a coin and load a different on on top in the magazine each day just for fun if they shoot same POI smile

Grizzlies in my limited experience of 30 or so are not hard to kill.

Took mine with Nosler Partition. 300 Weatherby Magnum factory load. Actually a brown bear. 9'6". Quartering shot bullet went in front shoulder. Came out off rear hip. Maybe 4 full feet of body tissue. Unfortunately the slug broke no bones. Liver shot him terminal. When slug came out the far end, a about cantaloupe sized ball of his guts was hanging out the exit hole. Extreme superb bullet performance. Wouldn't hesitate a second to use it in a 375. Same goes for the A-Frame. Be safe, take pictures and update us. I am envious.

Either bullet will work just fine.

I wish you would have said something earlier. We could have compare notes on the 375 Ruger. I'm headed to AK on 5/31 for a grizzly hunt. I'm planning on using a 270 Hornady round nose interlock. My reload has 80 grains of IMR 4350 & CCI mag primer. It's @ 2600 fps. I've recovered beautiful mushrooms from wet phone books at 75 yards. I got about 14" of penetration & the bullet weighed 170 grains. I did the same test with dry phone books and I got about 12 1/2" of penetration & the recovered bullet weighed the same 170 grain. Good luck on your hunt.

FYI-----Grizzly & Brown bears are the same animal. Where I'm hunting it's considered a grizzly by SCI standards but a brown bear by B&C. I'm hoping for an 81/2 footer.

I like that idea, load one of each for the top two and shoot twice wink I actually did that once on a black bear..............

FWI, spring came slowly here but the bears are out in big numbers now, I like your chances on seeing some nice bears. Haven't seen any rubbed bears yet but on the coast more you may need to look over a bear carefully by now.

I would be using the Swift AFrame in that scenario. You don't need BC at those ranges, so go with the one that will open up nicely and make a big hole all the way through.

My two guides used the 300 gr A-Frame. The owner, with 35 years of experience, did not recommend the Partition. The other bullet he thought highly of was the 270 TSX, which I used. Just another view.

My experience with guides and outfitters is that they are not always knowledgeable on bullets and sometimes make decisions based on other factors other than how a bullet kills. Others just don't care within reason what you use as long as you can shoot. That said almost any 375 cal bullet other than solids made will kill a grizzly.

Pretty hard to blame the bullet with either choice.

(These guys that are suggesting every other must be crazy...I'd never do such a thing...

....50 times..... but I've probably done it 49. crazy )

I have been using the 300 Gr Nosler Partition for many years. I have never needed to fire more then 1 at any animal. I have never recovered one because all have exited. I have never had to track an animal shot with one.

I am sure the Swift will be just as good

Either would have served you well. You didn't pull the trigger, but did you have a good time?
