Walked into my local gun store on Friday and they had a lefty Tikka T3 stainless in 270WSM for $340.00 bucks. So, now I have a new 270WSM:) Wasn't planning on the purchase, but couldn't turn it down. I've been shooting a 308 for years, and it's been my go-to hunting rifle for most things. With the 270WSM, the ballistics are looking fantastic. I was gonna start working on loads this upcoming Memorial Day weekend, and I was wondering, for all around hunting, what bullets perform the best? I was looking at starting with 140 grain Accubonds. This rifle will be used for everything from antelope to elk. Any loading tips, or bullet recommendations are appreciated, thanks! Steve

I used to use 150 Partitions and RL22. Now I use 150's and RL26. It's an easy shooting cartridge. The 140 AB would be a great Bullet for what you're looking to do.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I was also looking at the Barnes and curiosity has me looking at the 160 grain Partitions. I think I will try a 130 grain monolithic bullet and see how they shoot. I like how fast the WSM zips them along.

You might want to also try out the 130 gr. Nosler E-Tip bullets. I have been loading them for my .270 WSM, with great accuracy and 3300 fps MV. Bullet works great on everything I have used it on.

I don't load but do have a couple of 270 WSM's. I have been using the Barnes TTSX 110 gr. bullets for several years on whitetails with excellent results.

You will like the 270 WSM, not much recoil. Less than a 7 Rem mag with same weight bullets. Just my opinion.

Thanks hanco! I was kinda on the fence about the rifle until I looked up what the gun can do; I can't wait to see what I can cook up. Gonna head to my LGS tonight and pick up some projectiles and powder. Think I need to get some magnum primers, too.

I load 60.5 grains IMR 4350. That's max, with 140 Accubonds. Ballistic tips would be great also. You can get a bit more with other powders, but I'm an IMR 4350 guy. I do use magnum primers.

I got a bunch of 4350, I use that in my 243 quite regularly. Do you use IMR4350 or the H4350?

IMR, I would like to try some H 4350. Hard to find right now. There is 8 lbs on GunBroker, it will go for over 300.00 before auction is over.

I'll stick with the IMR 4350 I got in the basement:) I was also looking at RL17. I have used that for heavy bullets in my 308, have you or anyone reading this, toyed around with that powder with the 270wsm?

I use the TTSX 120's in my 7mm SAUM and they are death on hogs & deer. The 120 BT's hammer deer just as well. Nosler makes Accubonds in (.277)110 gr. too

I've never been a fan of the WSM concept. In general, the ballistics are 'almost" the equivalent of their long-action brethren (300 WM, 7mm Rem Mag, etc), but available in an action 1/2" shorter....big deal. The one exception is the 270 WSM, which exceeds 270 Win ballistics by a bunch, bringing it up to 270 Wby levels without the ammo expense, limited rifle selection, free-bore issue, etc. Mine is in a newer Steyr Classic Mannlicher half-stock, so accuracy is superb. I've now relegated my 7 Rem Mag to 160gr loads, and use 130 and 140gr in the 270 WSM.

As stated above, load a box or two of 140 Accubonds over some IMR-4350 and you will likely settle right there. The same charge over a 140 grain Gameking will likely work equally well. I load all my .270 WSMs with magnum primers as well.
