How is the view through these? I have heard they track well but I am looking for a "no [bleep]" review.

I have a long range class coming up and want a mil/mil setup

Just keep in mind that it is SFP. For such a class I would think you would want FFP,at least I would.

They are probably on sale because nobody wants a ranging reticle with SFP.

I think a SFP reticle would be more appealing to me on something like a medium range 2-10 where I would only want to shoot any distance on 10X. I would still however prefer a well designed FFP with a thick outer portion for hunting on low magnification.

Just out of curiosity, what would you be ranging at less than 15X? and why?

On my three primary hunting rifles (308, 6.5 creedmoor and 243 AI), I'm not even thinking of ranging at less than 250 yards.

MIght range sage rats with my 17 HMR @ 150+ just because they's so small, but....

What am i missing?

David,my thought was that on 15X the exit pupil may be smaller than I would want in the field at last light. Sometimes I can see much better on 6X-8X,so was thinking 10X might not be too bad.

last light suggests to me close up shooting <200 yards.

If further, I'd probably 10X, laser it, and turn the knobs.

And the math that it's a mil at 15x and 1.5 mils at 10x is too complex?

I to prefer a FFP reticle. I actually bought a SS 12x42 mil/milquad for the class. I typically run a Zeiss Victory Diavari 2.5-10x42 on the rifle which is a FFP scope with a #4. It rocks as a hunting scope but it is not a long range precision scope. The lessons learned with the SS will translate nicely to the Zeiss for reasonable hunting ranges.

Had better than (30) MQ scoped rifles out this pass, including the 3-15X SFP.

Poked it on a few rifles,to remember me how much I fhuqking HATE variables, but found it a nice home upon a rather exceptional 10/22.

Better than (25) Mils of up available, from it's zero-stopped 50yd zero. Zoomification marked at 7.5X and quantified,so FOV and light transmission ain't tossed offa fhuqking cliff. That SFP shift grants (1) Mil subtension references upon the windshield, for (40) Mils of ele total while applying solely same. Add (25)more of erector and it'll do some thangs.

It is VASTLY superior at half subtension(7.5X),than it is balls out. Also MUCH faster to employ too. Hint.

I told AA to stick their Electric Hummer in their ass, which was the prod to purchase said glass. The wait was too great and I'm not into fhuqking around. SFP sucks ass,but this is a great way to fly at 50% subtension.

Pass the 6X MQ(s).

Hint.

No, just unnecessary complication.

So yeah or nay for $500?

I'd like a solid scope for target shooting, no hunting.

Optically and mechanically,it is a distant second fiddle to a Fixed Fhuqker. There is nothing redeeming in the variable, nor any advantage in it over the Fixed.

If one arrived under the pillow overnight,it could be pressed into service as described above...but the approach will fhuqk most folks up and certainly them who ask questions about riflescopes. Take the money and run, bank upon Fixed Fhuqker MQ sanctity and let simplicity and superiority connect dots by default.

I bought it as much as a Bitter Pill,to get folks' minds right on the pitfalls of Variables in general and SFP in particular. Was going to field the SFP Variable on the AA Electric Hummer and extrapolate like ballistic performance via Anschutz 1717 D HB(10X MQ wearing 75MOA rail) and a Custom 77/22 Hummer wearing a .720" 18" Clark LW in one of them there MacaMillion stocks with a 6X MQ. Mainly because it woulda been funny. Hint.

Pass the Fixed Fhuqkers and hold the Fluff.

spend less and grab a fixed 6x or 10x. but beware, they tend to multiply ...

I took n8dawg6's advice. I thought about this deal for a moment, but decided to go with another SS fixed power scope. I really like the 10x that I bought a few months ago and bought a 6x for another rifle. I originally got the 10x for a 7mm-08 but moved it to my 300 wm. The 6x will go on the 7mm-08. Just my opinion but, it is hard to beat SWFA's SS line of scopes for quality and value and I think their MOA reticle is one of the best I've tried for use in hunting and long distance shooting.

Is 12x fixed too much? I see y'all talk g about the 10x mostly.

This will go on a creedmoor, for target shooting.

The fixedd are on sale for $269

In my reasoning, for a dedicated steel or paper scope without regard for low light shooting, the 12x made sense. I would not want the higher power offerings though. I could live with a 10x too. A 6x would be nice too.

Getting older and the extra power helps a little but I can't imagine wanting a variable in this case. I can't really imagine needing the HD for my purpose either.
