I always thought they were a pretty cool looking steel & walnut old school type rifle. As I recall they were first made about 20 years ago and initially got some good reviews. I haven't seen one or read anything about them in a few years. I checked Thompson's web site and they're not there. Was there some problem with them or did they not sell that well?

I have always liked them as well. Eventually I will pick one up. I have heard there was an issue with the extractor. But not certain on that.

I bought a T/C Classic 22 for my Son when he was 5 in 2002 at a Bass Pro shop Fall expo for on $250.00...on sale I had to cut the stock so my son could shoot it. The most accurate 22 auto IMO.

I eventually bought a stainless T/C Lynx for myself.....still have both rifles.

A buddy of mine had one for a while. I remember him saying 3/8" groups were no problem at 50 yards with Wolf ammo. Can't remember him ever complaining or griping about any problems with it. I'm thinking it was a Classic.

I have the T/C Classic that I bought new when they were available. Like the OP, I like the lines of the rifle. Mine is very accurate and functions flawlessly with Wolf Match Target ammo as well as CCI Mini Mag hollow points. I like that .22 rifle.

I have several of these 1 NIB & 1 that is my Squirrel rifle. Without a DOUBT they are the MOST accurate 22 Semi-Auto that I have owned,
A gentleman by the "Handle " Vincent used one for several years and did very well in matches.

If the gun is complete and does not have any of the extractor /chamber chipping issues(which can be verified but a close exmination)
Thats a good price. If the wood is solid with no cracks ,a loving refinish will only improve the gun.

BassPro cleared them out at at $249....... new......

I looked T the extrActor cut in the barrel and saw a light rub shine but no chips.
Didn't have my reading.glasses though.

Reciever was D&T but no bases. Hard to find mounts?

Had one for a while. With a little red dot, 1" groups at 50 yards were possible. The trigger was excellent. Mine wouldn't reliably feed holler points, from either magazine, so I traded it off. I really wanted to like it. Later, I thought about getting one in Mach2, figuring the pointy bullets would prevent the feeding problem, but never followed through. Considering the ammo situation, probably a good thing.

Mounts are not hard to come by for the T/C.
Weaver and others make base sets .

The serial number range may be the best clue as to when it was made and if it might be a gun prone to exractor or other issues.

Some of the hard core T/C freaks on Rimfire Central might be able to give you a better idea.

I bought one of the T/C classics in January of 2000 along with a CZ -511 both brand new.. They ran well and shot about the same - a bit under .75" at 50 yards.

I sold them, both because they really did't shoot any better than the very nice 1962 Browning 22 Takedown I already had.. Still have the Browning and its still very accurate:)

Truth be known, given how well your custom GM barreled 10/22 shoots, I doubt any factory semi auto(and most bolt guns) will offer you any more than it provides you already.[email][/email]

Yes, I certainly wouldn't expect any rifle to outshot that 10-22!
I'm thinking about the TC simply because its interesting - I like variety. I'm only mildly interested though.
I think ill be looking for a good source of RWS HV instead.
