My new Remington 700BDL .375 Rem Ultra Mag requires a scope. At first, I was interested in a Leupold FX11 4x33 or VX3i 1.5-5x20, but now I'm thinking about getting a custom shop FX2 3x20 big bore. Can those that own a FX2 3x20 big bore gives their thoughts on its suitability on a 375RUM.

I can't see the downside. I have two 3X scopes and am considering another Leupold. I think I need one witha German #1 for my 9.3x62. I have an older all steel, low round count, Weaver on it now. Better coatings might be beneficial. An M8 Leupold is on a Glenfield 30 in 30-30. I like threes, but I started out in the sixties with a 2.5. It worked then......

Best,

Jack

I like fixed power scopes (mostly 4x), but do think that the 1.5-5 offers more flexibility. I used them on my 375s without regret.

I own and use both the older model and the new custom shop 3X.......nothing to dislike!

Very durable scope! The long tube is great when mounting on a long action or magnum action.

3X is adequate magnification for critters that you would hunt with a 375.

Put the Leupold 3x on the .375 RUM and go forth and kill big game animals.

Dingo, depending on your rifle's length of pull and how you lean into the scope will matter. That said the 3x is more mounting friendly than the 4x since the objective end is the same diameter all the way out. The 3x scope tube is longer than my VX-II 1x4 but has a bit less eye relief or so it seems to me. I really like my 3x with the heavy duplex. I mounted it on a Savage 99.

You have a nicer 99, but put my 3x on my 99 in 308 also. Feels good on there.

The FXII 4x is a short tube scope. It will fit your Remington, but it will only fit between the rings with no extra fore/aft adjustment. If that is the right eye relief for you, then you're good to go. If not, then you've got to play with different ring setups.

The 3x Big Bore will give you a lot more fore/aft room to play with, and you can set it where you prefer it.

I do think the eyebox/image/ease of use resides with the 4x for some reason however. It is the easiest scope to get behind.

Mine seems to be about 3.5". It has a bit less than my VX-2 1x4 on 4x.

I am partial to the 1.5-5 Leupold on my .375. There is nothing wrong with your choice, I just like the flexibility of the variable.

10gaugemag,

The eye relief of the 3x20 on my .375 H&H measures 3.5" as well.

.

I ended up ordering a Leupold FX-11 4 x 33. The 4 x33 has a 5.5" (137.9mm) tube which is 1/2 inch (12.9mm) longer than the outside spacing on my rings. That gives me 1/2 inch to play with either way which hopefully allows me to set-up the scope for correct eye relief, or at least very close to it.
