Thoughts on sending a stock M700 CDL 24" barreled in 280 Rem to Brown to bed into a Pound'r and call it quits and going hunting...?

I have that CDL...my understanding is that the .280 Rem CDL was a limited run (and I was Jonesing to have a .280 at the time). Liked it so much on the bench I got a Mountain Rifle in .280 (stainless, lami stock) to hunt with. CDL sits in my safe, pretty rifle but heavy for humping up and down the hills here. I think the Brown is a great idea, but save that purdy CDL stock.

I've heard of the Brown Pounder but never handled one. Tell me what the draw is over a McMillan Edge.

There'd be no flies on that setup. If you haven't checked into yet, you should expect a $1200ish investment in the stock/fitting/bedding.

Too light of a stock for that barreled action...

I've had both the Pound'r and standard fill. The Pound'r was on a 700 sporter contour (280) w/23" barrel. The balance was a little forward but I'd not shy away from it if you want to go that light. If doing it again, I'd likely go with the standard fill unless ounces were truly precious.
If you like a super-svelte wrist area, the Brown is without peer in that regard.

No way that I'd go "pounder" on that heavy/long of a barrel.
Do the standard fiberglass Brown stock--it absorbs more recoil and will balance much more nicely.
The advantage of a Brown over a Mickey is that the Brown has nicer ergos than anything Mickey has done except their KS copy of it, and the Brown fiberglass absorbs more recoil.

I had a Brown Precision High Country on a Mod 700 Classic 35 Whelen ( I had it Ackleyed) for over 20 yrs ( sad...I had to sell the entire rifle) It was a wonderful set-up, and it absorbed a lot of recoil ( 250gr close to 2600, 310 @ 2400) I would do it again.
