I have had the chance to buy a stainless/laminate #1 in .405 Win. lately, and have another in 45-70 on the way. I was wondering what the consensus is on the collectability of these, and whether they will appreciate in value since they are not the typical #1. I have no idea how many were ever made, but it seems like they are not, at least, common. What does the forum say?

I kinda wanted one, but wasn't that impressed when I saw one in person. The walnut-stocked ones, OTOH, look very nice.

Rarity is one thing that influences collectability, but I think desirability trumps it.

I always wanted one in .45/70 but haven't run across one.

Bought one of Gunbroker a few years ago for just over $400. They weren't very desirable at that time. Always thought I'd like to swap out the laminate for a nice walnut stock set, but every time I find a set, it's priced over what I'm willing to sink into it. IIRC, CDNN was dumping SS Lam #1s in .405 for pretty reasonable a year or so ago..

I have always found favor with the stainless laminate ones. I'd happily pay more for one of those than I would for the generic walnut and blue ones that seem to be the norm lately.

I would never call them a pretty rifle but definitely think they are good looking. My 25-06 shoots.
