Do you folks handle any used gear? Cookie's Canon EOS 50D bought the farm in a car wreck about a week ago. Thank God the lens it was wearing weathered the storm. I doubt their insurance company will spring for a new model, but we'd be happy with a clean used one? If not, are there some shops about that get your blessing?

Thanks,

KEH.com and BHphotovideo.com are the two I buy from. Both have great return policies and are conservative in their grading. I buy grade 9 and higher from B&H and the gear basically looks new; a Fuji lens I bought earlier this month was graded 9 (out of 10) and it came in the box still wrapped in plastic. KEH is similar, their "BGN" grade equipment is a great deal--it will be cosmetically worn, but functionally perfect.

Adorama is another trusted commercial source for used cameras and lenses. But you have a much better selection on eBay.

I bought a refurbished 60D from Canon Direct a couple of years ago and couldn't tell it from a brand new one.

Still using it without a single problem.

[align:left][/align]I bought from a local camera shop . I was a bit concerned about buying used and it was a Nikon D3100. I found out it only had 723 shutter clicks. In other words , brand new. I won't buy new again cause so many people buy full size cameras and find they dont want the weight of a DSLR. Many cameras out there darn near new. Is the wife ok? Getting a new camera, that is the easy part. I imagine that was the camera she used to take pics of the snowshoes a few weeks ago. Really too bad , but I hope your wife is ok. I can get a Cannon 1ds mark 111 for about $1,200 bucks on Amazon and that camera was $5,000 new.

We came through the accident in fine shape, and yes, Cookie is/was very fond of that unit with a 100-400mm on board. Lots of bunny pics that week. Quite hand hold -able. Still have not had a face to face with the insurance man yet on how they will handle repair/replacement. We're suspecting a used replacement will be less expensive than repair. Given the rig that hit us was well documented to be square in the middle of our lane, they've not been all that excited about chatting with us. Have a good one,

I think it's a good idea to support Camera World, they are a sponsor. The only thing that stopped me is they didn't used to list a price on anything, you had to call. I like to see prices listed. I don't know what B&H might have but there are two way's to go. Used and refurbished. I buy most everything refurbished any more. Can't be told from new! I,ve done business over the years with Adaorama also, not a complain one. I think from Adaroma you get a better guarantee on refurbished equip, think that's what I saw.
