Posted this elsewhere, but does anyone have an idea of the value of a Winchester Trails End, cal. .45 Colt, in excellent condition?

look around on GunBroker for ideas.......

Done that- prices there are kinda hard to believe, they are so high.

Got a recent volume of the Gun Digest book of gun values- they list it as: Perfect- $950, Excellent- $825. I was hoping there was some real-world output from folks here with experience selling this rifle.

They don't make them anymore, and I don't remember them ever being plentiful.

While I'll agree that the gun auctions are not comparable to real world prices, I haven't seen one in the wild for at least 10 years, probably 15. So, there you have the dilemma. When it's an uncommon firearm you have to be patient enough to wait for one (which may never happen), or pay the piper.

You wouldn't get mine for those prices. I was offered 1250.00 for mine about 7 years ago. I said "no thank you" without hesitation. And got a "don't blame you" as a response. If I saw one for under 1000.00 I would be surprised.

Is this the one with octagon barrel, casehardened receiver, lever and buttplate?

Frontiersman - just saw you posting re:M94 "Trails End". I've a similar problem with a .45LC M95 "Trapper" model i.e. 16 inch c/m barrel w/saddle ring.
Purchased new in 2004 and find I'm not using it at all. Purchased for CAS and then lost interest. Total of 7 rounds thru tube. Looking to sell it BUT no takers.

Ironically, I saw one at my LGS a couple months ago for 595.00. I decided to think about it a couple days and come back on the weekend. It was gone.

Would rather have the 1892 Octagonal barreled Winchester I have. The Model 94 action was not built for pistol cartridges.

I saw another one for 650.00 not long ago. It was gone when I went back the following week. They are out there, if you are patient.

I will agree, The 94 is not an ideal pistol cartridge gun. Mine don't get out much.

And the 92 wasn't designed for straight wall pistol cartridges either. My 1894 is every bit as reliable as my 92.Never had an issue.

Never considered that. That’s a good point.

Somehow it had escaped me that the Win 92 was never available in .45 Colt. The .357 and .44 I can understand. They came along much later. But the .45 was there long before the 92 came about. I expect it had more to do with the fact that it was a proprietary cartridge of colt than a shortfall of the rifle design.

I have never seen an issue feeding the straight wall cases in clones and conversions.

And, as for the 94 in .45. I have not had a problem either, but I have frequently heard complaints. It sure is a sloppy and noisy feeder with handgun cartridges. It is clearly not what they had in mind for that action, but I like mine just the same and don't plan on parting with them any time soon.
