So if you were just bored with AR's and wanted a military style rifle, what would you buy? I've been kicking around the idea of buying a new go-fast EBR, but I want something other than an AR. I'm pretty covered in the AR deparment; even have an AR-180...So I'd like my next rifle to be a...not an AR.

But I've also been thinking about some 3rd gen* military rifle such as:
FN SCAR-16 - but they are a little more than I want to spend...I could buy the rifle, but then I'd have to wait a good while to buy the optic.
CZ BREN 805 - This is actually kinda at the top of my list. I'm a big CZ fan, and the BREN is SMOOOOOTH!!! It's one hell of a rifle and it's several hundred less than the SCAR.
Beretta APX100 - This is currently the closest in the running against the BREN.
Remington/Bushmaster ACR - I shot one of these several years ago, but haven't seen one since; still a slick rifle.
TAVOR - Now typically I'm not a bullpup kind of guy, but I like Israeli stuff and it's an interesting rifle
Lithgow F-90 - Supposed to be coming in this year, it's an upgraded Steyr AUG

So what are your thoughts on a non-AR rifle?

Since I already have an M1a, Garand, Minis and AR's, I would love to get a PTR-91. The old Swedish semi auto would have been fun to own to.

Another nice Garand would be my #1. A DS Arms FN FAL Voyager model @$1,100.00 would be #2.

I would consider a Garand, but I'm not an M1A/M14 fan at all. I'm much more interested in the more modern rifles...progress you know.

Since I have no desire to be a waanabe tacticool guy, something old school suits me: M1, M1A. Beyond that, the single AR I own is enough too.

I keep eyeing an FAL at the local funstore. Imbel receiver, but seems to have one of those sleek Austrian barrels & flash hider smirk

If they were available and affordable, that Swiss rifle SG550, I think its called, would be nice to add to the K31 shooting trips.

Every time I watch a buncha French Foreign Legion videos on youtube, I wish we could get that FAMAS here. If I had one, I'd probably recover from that wish before the first magazine was empty....

I shot a friend's TAVOR last week.... It carries a lot different than an AR.

I still kick myself for not buying a AG-42B at J&G in about 1990 when they were $238.

an FAL that looked like they looked classic would be cool! (the right arm of the free world)

Those are all just fun distractions....the AR is still the greatest hobbyist rifle ever invented.

At one point in the late '80's I had a SIG STgW-57, that was an absolutely AWESOME rifle. But back in those days, 7.5 Swiss ammo was very hard to find, and really expensive. As much as I loved the rifle, I just couldn't afford to feed it. Hell, I don't think Donald Trump could afford to feed it in the late '80's. I did learn to make my own brass from .284 Winchester cases...wasn't ideal, but it sorta worked. But the fluting in the chamber of the SIG was REALLY deep, much worse than an H&K, so I got basically two firings out of that brass...that's a lot of work for just two "bangs" at the range.

I know a man who has 2 FALs to sell. One is built from a kit and the other is an Arizona Response Systems rifle.
PM Me if you want to talk to him and I'll put you in touch.

I'm really mostly intested in the newer generation rifles. I've built FAL's, sold FAL's, shot FAL's; pretty much learned all I wanted to learn about them. They are my favorite of the 7.62 NATO rifles.

I'm really kinda leaning toward the CZ BREN.

I have an AR-15, AR-10 & an M1A Supermatch. Of the three, the M1A is my favorite hands down.
