Strapped on the back pack sprayer the other day to spot spray some weeds that had sprung up since the last go around. Found quite a few goatheads that have appeared with the warm weather we have been having lately. Blasted them with my special concoction of Round-up and 2-4D. Checked them this morning and they are all curled up and dying a miserable death that they so richly deserve. Just in time too. It's supposed to shower for the rest of the week.

Gawd I hate them things.

I could wish a lot of things on my worst enemy but neuropathy ain't one of them.

Weeds are a pain this time of year for sure. I have a 65 gallon sprayer for my little tractor, and I sprayed some fencerows yesterday, along with some areas next to my driveway. I use a mix of a quart of Makaze (Roundup) and a half quart of Salvo (2-4-D) per acre, mixed in 20 gallons of water. It will pretty much kill anything you want to spray.

The bane of my existence is a weed called hoary cress. Perennial that reproduces with both seed and rhizomes. It has made big inroads in the county I live in and it takes a long time to cut it back. One can never get completely rid of it though and every year for the last seventeen years my Spring is spent with it.

Nothing eats it, it causes mucous membrane issues on cattle, and only one chemical kills it and then only partially.

Zapped half the spread's blackberries with crossbow a couple weeks ago. Soon as this rain spell ends I need to zap the other half.

That's what we call white top here. I hate it too. I've had decent kill on it using Telar and escort. But you have to get it before it flowers.
I'd get some killed and then the next thing I know more have popped up from the rhizomes.

I've been spraying Russian knapweed too. And some wild licorice.

Good on you for getting after the puncture vine/goatheads. It's about the only thing I use spray on where I live. Like you............I HATE THAT STUFF. I go around barefoot or in sandals alot, not a good thing around goatheads.

I haven't seen it yet on our place in Cali, I know it's in the area though, have seen it in town.

We found out about a new to us weed there this spring though, burr buttercup. It grows in the gravelly part of our yard. It's not fun for running around barefoot either.

Have you folks ever dealt with it? I'm thinking about going after it early in the spring with my weed burner as we have other plants/flowers there that won't allow broadcast spraying with an herbicide. If it takes me a few years to get it all out (we're surrounded by wildlands so I think I might be fighting for a while) well, I'm retiring so I'll just have a spring project to go on the whiteboard.
