My son and I are planning a fishing trip and Labrador for Brookie's.
We would spin and fly fish.
The cost is what it is, I'm looking for a reputable outfitter at a reasonable price.

Thanks for any input and experiences.

Steve, I'd like to help, but perhaps others will. What have you learned before asking here?

Igloo lake lodge has been very good to friends and family. Timing has yet to work out for me but that is where I would be headed.

There are a lot of outfitters with prices from $3,995 - $7,000 PER person. The ads all promise great fishing and probably true. I always feel more comfortable working from a referral, those who have experienced a good outfitter.

Brook trout fishing is all about timing--you have to be at the right place at the right time. At times it doesn't matter presentation or bait, they are aggressive fish, easy to catch. Other times you can watch them all day and they won't bite.

At those prices you are looking at the totality of the experience as Labrador is some wierd country a long way from anywhere. I can't help with a recemendation on outfitters but I would sure love to go. Good luck

Although we didn't fish (we were there in January with -34c), we really liked the people at Northern Lights Lodge out of Wabush, especially Yves Ste. Marie. About 150 miles up the Trans Labrador Highway, then 87 KM by snowmobile to get to the lodge, but you can fly-in during the summer. We were looking for caribou. We had 5 in our party, and all would like to go back at some point..

It was a long way to go, but one of the most pristine areas I have ever seen. No evidence of civilization from the HW until we reached the lodge.

We are going up to Northwestern Ontario again this summer for smallmouth, walleye, and pike. I absolutely love Canada, the people and the fishing.

My brother and I fished at Anne Marie Lake Lodge years ago, I don't know if they are even still there. They advertised a "5 lb brook trout average". The only brookies I had ever caught were Rocky Mountain fish that MIGHT make 8 inches long, so I really wanted to see these big fish. As it turned out, they only weighed fish over 3 lbs, in order to get that 5 lb average. But it was still fun, all C&R. I think my biggest was around 6 lbs and my brother's was a bit larger.

edit: Their name is Cooper's Minipi Lodges, still in business.

Reno Gazette-Journal published a short story I submitted in the outdoor column, but it was before innanet days. It was a good trip, we met some great guides and camp staff. Our luggage was mis-sent, but we were loaned gear until ours got there. The loaners were much better than our own rods/reels. We did quite a bit of "mousing", dragging a big fat mouse pattern just ahead of rapids, to try and get those lunkers to strike.
