I know this is the backpack hunting forum; but, I figured it's the best place to discover if anybody has done this. I have a couple of personally owned backpacks that I have used for military duty over the past decade. Anyway, we have transitioned, for the most part, from ACU to MultiCam. Even though I am still authorized to use the ACU pattern, I don't want to do so. I want to dye a couple of acu pattern backpacks to a solid color, most likely black (maybe solid foliage). Has anybody here done so? If so, what product(s) did you use and what was your process? How effective was it?

I have a set of Marathon seat covers which are made from nylon cordura, the same stuff as most backpacks. They say on their website that the colors are molded into the fabric as it's made so it can't be changed. The exception is their camo colored ones. They say that the pattern is printed on surface. As a result, it's subject to wearing off and fading much faster as it can't soak into the fabric. Using their experience, I'd guess that it will be less than a total success.

You may be correct Rock Chuck; however, I have read numerous times of it being done and done effectively. I am just unable to find a variety of procedures and products. I did find, on a couple of forums, wherein people typed that they utilized Rite Dye (sp) with a couple of different processes. I may go that route. Heck, it may be they only way. I do know it has been done and done effectively. Anybody else have other products or procedures they have used.

BTW, are you planning on turning your daughter's Little Mermaid pack into a hunting pack? Or the the other way around?

Other way around. I think I'm going to have to "dip" it.
