Hey fellas has anyone had any experience with the 215gr Hybrid VLD with off angle or quarter shots on game?
What were the results?
Good, bad, ugly?
Thx!

I took an antelope at 550 yards and a 4x4 mule deer at about 200. I'm shooting them at 2800 fps from a custom 300 wsm. Golf ball sized exit drt on the antelope and tennis ball sized exit on the deer but it ran about 30 yards leaving a trail of lung pieces along the way. I really like them.

First of all the bullet in question is known as a target hybrid not a VLD. While I currently use the 230 target hybrid in my 300 RUM, based on what I have read of the 215's performance I would have used it instead IF it had come out first. I am attaching a link (long thread) that will remove all doubt about this bullet's capabilities. You can read the entire 61 pages if you like. I set it up at page 14 where he begins to kill elk. Thanks to a fellow who's handle is Broz who did an excellent job documenting this bullet's performance from a 300 win mag: http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f19/comparing-berger-210-vld-215-hybrid-88657/index14.html

Bb Wow thats some awful big exits... I have the 215s on the list to try next, but thankfully only in a 308 where the exits should be somewhat normal. Although I generally end up going back to target bullets for the game performance that I prefer.
We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....

I watched a friend shoot a large whitetail doe last fall in MS with the 215, the distance was 312yds slight quartering to, just behind the shoulder and the exit was mid body on the far side. Exit hole was fist size and she ran 50yds or so. This from a 300wm, A side note is he seems to be having a stability issue with them.

I figured Broz's account of the 215's performance would have been enough to convince someone to use that bullet. But carry on.....

Would like to test the bullet in a factory rifle 300 WM 1 in 10 twist. Found a Rem American Wilderness at a good price, the Tikkas I looked at were 11 twist. What recomend you?

They shoot great from my 10 twist brux but I'm also at about 5000 feet. I've been using them a lot over the last two years. I'll try to run one through an elk this year.

Starting with a Remington AWR in 300 WM and will see what happens. Thanks Whittakers.

I ended up shooting a 5 point bull with a 215 at about 200 yards. No exit but it dropped right there. The heart was gone, just mush.

Nice going Justin!
Earlier in this thread I said I would have chosen the 215 if it came out first. Have changed my mind as the 230s always exit and tend to ruin less meat than what Broz's thread has shown with the 215s.
This Dec I got a 6 x 6 last day of season with my 300 RUM and 230 match target hybrid, 2800 fps @ 156 yds. Bull was facing at slight angle. Bullet entered nicking inside edge of left front shoulder exited behind right shoulder leaving a 2" exit. Bull turned and crashed into dead pines that sounded like a car going through a wooden garage door. I so rarely get drawn for elk but every time I shoot one with a 230 they have exited dropping the elk with a reasonably sized exit hole. Last elk was a cow at 250 yds through both scapulas with little meat damage. Exit 1 1/2" or so. DRT
